The Light at the End of the Tunnel is a bittersweet comedy on political cynicism and the scammers of our times, on love offered in exchange of the party membership card, on infidelities validated by surveys and on corrupt mentalities.
In a world in which it matters more how you furnished your house than how you furnished your mind, the cunning politician Virgil Neacșu understands well his role in the carnival of manipulations. That is why he tolerates in a good-natured way his wife’s lovers, until the spouse of one of them threatens his position of power. And then a dangerous game commences, highlighted by bitter smiles, at the end of which the supposed prey becomes the hunter, and the system regenerates itself with „new people”.
The shows surprises these inner mechanisms which corrupt relationships, behaviours, perceptions, in a scenic proposal filled with rhythm, energy, comic lucidness, making us aware of our day to day reality.
And the proposal of scenographer Puiu Antemir to invite the audience into the home of the Neacșu family, through the inspired placement of stepped rows of seats in the acting area, clearly highlights the idea that we are not mere spectators, but we play a vital role in all events, whether we choose to look or to act.
