Producer Hervé Koubi Company, France

To talk about his Algerian origins, choreographer Hervé Koubi, a French native, chooses the Dance. If the title refers to Yasmine Khadra's eponymous novel, the artistic fabric reveals disturbing dynamic highlights, at the crossroads between hip-hop, street-dance and contemporary dance.

Twelve dancers from Algeria and Burkina Faso perform spectacularly on stage. A profound show, inspired by the oriental painting and the stone filigrees of Islamic architecture. Hervé Koubi is retracing his own becoming. "What the Day Owes to the Night" is a story about roots, connections, time, humanity.

"It is as if a nineteenth-century Orientalist would come to Algeria to bring his dreams to life. I myself, a child born in France, discovering with great delay my true origins, the origins of my Algerian parents by birth, I sought to give flesh to my dreams." Hervé Koubi
