For the first time in Romania, the famous Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft will hold a concert at The Black Box of the National Theatre, Saturday, June 11 2011, at 7 P.M.. An event powered by JAZZ.ro in partnership with NTB Hypertheatre.

After the concert of Swiss jazz musician NikBärtsch held in November 2010 and the recital of Greek pianist Vassilis Tsabropoulos organized in March 2011, the Modern Solo Piano series of recitals, part of the programme NTB Hypertheatre - Music, continues with another important name of modern contemporary pianistic.

The Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft is one of the most important figures of the contemporary jazz scene in Europe and will perform for the first time ever in Romania. He comes from the best European Jazz School at the present, The Norwegian School, from where, at the beginning of the ‘70s, true legends of the genre emerged: Jan Garbarek, Arild Andersen, Terje Rypdal and Jon Christensen. In the first part of his career, Bugge worked extremelly well with these ones, Arild Andersen's album Sagn and Jan Garbarek's I Took Up The Runes becoming a collector's piece for every jazz lover.

In 1994, Bugge launches New Conception Of Jazz, an exquisite blend of jazz, house, techno, ambient, free improvisation, a combination that bears the Bugge trademark. All the albums released under the formula New Conception Of Jazz were acclaimed by the critics and, basically, these recordings gathered all the important Norwegians artists: Nils Peter Molvaer, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, Rune Anersen, Ingebrit Flaten, Vidar Johansen. He starts exceptional collaborations with other great names such as Paolo Vinaccia, Dhafer Yousseff and Joshua Redman.

In 1996, he creates his own record label Jazzland, one of the most important ones in Europe at the moment.

His solo piano album It's Snowing On My Piano, edited in 1998 at Act Music in more than 100.000 copies, becomes the best-selling album in the history of the renowned German label. Bugge's collaboration with singer Sidsel Endresen (one of the most important European voices) resulted in two Grammy awarded albums. Since 2004, Bugge Wesseltoft has focused more on solo and duo formulas, working together with young artists all over the world, an initiative that brought him even more notoriety and visibility among the young audience.

Grand Piano, Fender Rhodes, Keyboards, percussion instruments, samplers, programming devices and vocal effects are used simultaneously in a perfect harmony by the hands of Bugge Wesseltoft and his music was called FUTURE JAZZ.

Young pianist Cadmiel Botac, aged 14, will play in the opening of the Bugge Wesseltoft recital. Cadmiel (foto 3) is one of the most promising pianists in Romania, and has been granted numerous national and international awards.
