Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn - September 29
80 lei; 100 lei
One of the most fashionable theatre productions of the past seasons, the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn is returning with a new gala edition to the National Theatre in Bucharest on September 29. Consisting of duels of witticisms, selected poetry, refined humour and the exquisite music provided by cellist Adrian Naidin, the Caramitru-Mălăele rendezvous at the National Theatre have become a key element on the calendars of theatre aficionados in Bucharest. The actors Horațiu Mălăele and his lifelong friend, the great Ion Caramitru, both legends of the Romanian theatre, will join on the stage of the Studio Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest for a first gala edition of this season of the most acclaimed theatre production of the past seasons: Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn. The show is an excellent challenge for two elegant, intelligent reciting masters who will humorously explore subtleties of the mind and obscure niches of the soul.
Caramitru recites movingly, envisioning intelligent and ingenious responses cut out for the volcanic, irresistible and humorous Horațiu Mălăele. These are demonstrations of virtuosity in a duel of words whose witnesses are often Shakespeare, Topârceanu or Nichita. Horațiu Mălăele remains a comical genius who has thoroughly proven that he masters all of the subtleties of the mind and the soul, which he arrives at using artistic means. Probably the best exponent of the Romanian theatre in the past two decades, as Ion Caramitru describes him, the relentless Mălăele is in a perpetual quest, and therefore no two of his performances are alike. Cellist Adrian Naidin has accepted the invitation of providing this unconventional spectacle of words with a rhythm. “Uttered, the sound could become a word”, says Mr. Naidin. “There are connections between word and sound. Both have the same origin: the spirit. Both emerge from the soul”, he says.
Having reached its fourth season of completely sold out performances, both in Bucharest and in tours around the country, the Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn show begins the new season with a series of gala editions. You are kindly invited to rejoin the three artists in the theatre hall at the beginning of a new year, so that, in the words of Horațiu Mălăele, “throughout the rest of your life you should laugh, for laughter is the music of the soul, you should play, for it is the secret of youth, and you should love, for it is the very reason of living”.
