(May) language give birth to worlds? (May) words still generate realities? (May) poetry still save something or someone? These are some of the questions raised by this very fertile stage partnership between director Radu Afrim and poet Simona Popescu. The direction itself becomes poetry, just as poetry, through its power to organize the unseen, is invited, symbolically, to take over the functions of direction. Beyond the linguistic explorations, the Afrimian herbarium tackles an unsettling theme of increasing urgency: the alienation of man from nature and the irreversibility of this process. Powerfully sonorous, visually complex, Herbarium addresses us head-on, speaking to us in different ways about what we have been and what we have become.
