On December 8th, 2020, starting with 1:00 p.m., the lobby of the Grand Hall of the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest, will host the first promotional event of the project Innovative exhibition of restored goods from the collection of the Bucharest National Theatre Museum, a project financed by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 within the RO-CULTURE Program.
The opening conference of the project will be attended by representatives of the beneficiary of the funding - the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest, as well as project partners: National Art Museum of Romania, National Village Museum "Dimitrie Gusti", National Military Museum King Ferdinand I and the National Library of Romania. The conference will be broadcast live, online, on NTB YouTube channel and on the Project and NTB Facebook pages.
The project aims to improve the management of cultural heritage, improve cultural entrepreneurship, develop new skills and create new jobs.
The project will lead to the organization of an innovative exhibition that will bring to the public 38 restored movable property, the development of new skills in the workplace for project team members and the creation of 3 new jobs at the NTB Museum.
The "IL Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest is, at national level, the only public institution of performances that holds in its patrimony impressive collections of cultural goods, historical mirrors of the evolution of Romanian drama and performing arts. Following the reconstruction and redevelopment of the National Theatre, a generous space (650 sqm) was devoted to the NTB Museum, in which spectators and visitors have access right from the main entrance of the theatre, from the Grand Hall lobby.
In recent years, the NTB Museum has undergone an extensive process of reorganizing and reinventing the collections it holds. The data resulting from the inventory show that the collection of the NTB Museum comprises 227 paintings, 213 sculptures, 500 drawings, 157 costumes and accessories, 390 decorations and medals, 150 personal objects of the actors, and in the museum's warehouses there are numerous posters, photos and prints that will enter the collection of the National Theatre Library.
The reorganization of the Museum is achieved on modern principles and according to the rigours of the Law on Heritage, Museums and Collections and the rules on inventory, restoration and classification of movable cultural assets, being a real challenge for the NTB team.
The project "Innovative exhibition with restored cultural assets" is therefore a welcome support for the performance in the best possible conditions of these activities and a significant step towards the reopening of the Museum to the general public.
The project responds to the needs expressed both by the target groups (actors and technical and administrative staff of the Bucharest National Theatre, theatrologists, historians and theatre critics in Bucharest and in the country), and by the NTB audience.
According to a market study conducted by NTB in 2019, among the population of Bucharest, aged 18-64, NTB attracts the largest audience segment - approximately 45%. The NTB audience is the most culturally active, 6 out of 10 of the NTB spectators have attended more than 6 artistic events in the last year and most of them went, in addition to theatre performances, to museums / exhibitions, cinema, concerts. Taking into account these data, the project aims to increase the number of visitors to the Bucharest National Theatre by at least 30%, targeting especially young audiences, in line with the slogan promoted by the current NTB communication team: "A new theatre for a new audience. ”
The project activities will be carried out by the teams of the "IL Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest in collaboration with the teams of the four partner institutions.
The Bucharest National Theatre will ensure the management of the project which involves permanent monitoring of all activities, communication and relations with partners, expertise of cultural assets, preparation of documentation for classification of assets, submission to the National Commission of Museums and Collections, monitoring of acquisitions and financial operations project, communication and promotion of the project, as well as the organization of the innovative exhibition.
The project partners, through their own restoration departments and specialized laboratories, will carry out the examination, physical and chemical investigations, treatment, conservation and restoration of the heritage objects that will be entrusted to them.
The opening conference of the project will present to the public, through the guests present at the event, details about the objectives, activities, results of the project, as well as team members who will take part in their activities: managers, restorers, experts.
The event will also be attended by representatives of the RO-CULTURE Program by which the project was funded.
