First edition 19 - 20 July 2019
The concept of the Jazz Manouche Festival Bucharest at NTB imported from France - the country where Emy Dragoi completed his musical studies, receiving the title of "Accordionist of the Year", the country where he discovered the illustrious promoters of this genre, Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli, but also a musical genre which inspires him in his own performances and compositional creations. Unusual musical arrangements will be presented to the public in a vocal-instrumental formula, which is in itself special.
This festival is a tribute to the great Jazz Manouche musicians - Django Reinhart and Stephane Grappelli.
Django imposed a "swing" rhythm that would mark a whole era of interwar Paris. The repertoire of this festival will include universal themes such as Minor Swing, Daphne, Belleville, Djangology, Swing 42, Nuages, etc.
Along with Emy Dragoi and Jazz Hot Club Romania,, will appear on stage Cristophe Lartilleaux, a great musician, who doubled the guitar in the movie Django with Reda Kateb. He is the founder of the French group Latcho Drom, with whom Emy Dragoi has collaborated for 10 years with concerts on the greatest stages worldwide.
Another protagonist joining the stage is Samy Daussat. He is a well-known guitarist in the Gypsy jazz world, a professional musician. For 30 years, he sang alongside the most vocal names in Jazz Manouche. He is a collaborator in Gypsy Jazz Manouche - Emy Dragoi's "Caravan Django" project. This project started on the NTB stage.
Jazz Hot Club Junior will join this magnificent concept for the first time. This group includes violinists Alessia and Bianca Dragoi, who will be accompanied by Deborah Lartilleaux (daughter of the great guitarist Cristophe Lartilleaux), a great bass player in the jazz world.
Another protagonist of this festival is gypsy guitarist Manase Pandele; established in Spain where he has perfected his Swing Gitano music career, performing with the titans of Gypsy jazz Flamenco.
This festival will feature a mini-recital by guitarist Alex Man, a great jazz manouche lover, with soloist Gabriela Costea (voice), forming a musical soul duo, bringing Brasilian "bossa-nova" music and I transposing it on jazz rhythm at NTB.
Emy Dragoi, founder and musical director of this musical project Jazz Manouche Festival Bucharest, collaborating and giving numerous shows alongside David Reinhart, Django's nephew, Trio Rosemberg, Bireli Lagrene, Didier Lockwood, portrays an older wish of his to the audience to organize this festival also in Romania. On this occasion, this festival joins the major jazz manouche festivals around the world.
The beloved actress of the National Theatre in Bucharest, Aylin Cadir, will join the above-mentioned guests. Aylin has been flirting with music from an early age. In her first album, Cloud, the enchanting Aylin Cadir explores jazz with pop and retro influences, and as a result we find a unique and very personal combination.
In the new NTB roof amphitheatre, Emy Dragoi and his guests are waiting for you to spend magical musical evenings.
