Mil Besos por un café
On April 29, 2013, for the first time in Romania, the Italian Dance Company Latin Café, led by choreographer Katina Genero, will hold in Bucharest the successful show: Mil Besos por un café. The Romanian audience, which has a passion for dance and unconventional performances, is expected at the National Theatre Bucharest, at 20:00, to watch the show about which the prestigious Italian newspaper "Stampa" wrote: A unique show, a new vision on dance and the Latin universe.
The production had its preview in Italy in December 2012, as a multicultural art project supported by "Associazione Ritmi E Danze Afro" and "Centro De Formazione Alla Danza Mamadanse", which aims to promote and value young talent, as well as music arts and choreography.
Mil Besos por un café is a demonstration of choreographic skill, a show focused on the binomial dance - coffee, a journey through Latin music and the history of coffee, this "essence of the devil" that gives wings to poetry, philosophy and to the most passionate love stories, an expression of the strongest human feelings and emotions. Under the baton of choreographer Katina Genero from Turin, twelve dancers coming from various parts of the world (Italy, Peru, Cuba, Poland), but who have in common a passion for Latin music, reinterpret in a contemporary manner the Caribbean, afro and Latin Caribbean dance. Along with music, the skills of the dancers, the costumes and the scenography help to create stories filled with passion and flavour, in which all of us find ourselves.
The show runs for one hour and a half. Tickets are available in three price categories: categ. VIP - 100 lei, categ. I - 80 lei, categ. II - 60 lei.
The event is organized by the European Centre for Arts and by Diva's Talents. Media Partners: 24FUN, Unica, 121. ro, Modernism.ro, Metropotam, WebCultura, SalsaMagia, Bucurestiivechisinoi.ro.
The story of dance and coffee
In the new millennium, on all five continents, in cities and towns, people drink espresso. Thus, the Espresso can be considered the universal language of coffee. In many parts of the world, the birth of a child, going through a rite of initiation or even a marriage proposal, the closing of a business deal, are celebrated with a cup of coffee. Coffee is a beverage that has managed to integrate in various cultures, without being scared by differences; on the contrary, it values and intensifies them. From Africa to Asia, through the Middle East and Europe and arriving to the New World, coffee speaks different languages. For some it is an opportunity for introspection, for others an exciting prelude to dancing, a liberator of mystic ecstasy or simply "the essence of the devil", that creates disorder in body and soul. First served in the "Café chantants" from Cairo, in the dervish dancers' ceremonies, but also in the prestigious European literary cafes, coffee finally landed in the New World, mixing its flavour with the sound of African tambourines.
All this has inspired the choreographer Katina Genero to write the story of dance and coffee. In Mil Besos por un café, coffee is sipped by dancing to the rhythms of African origin, to the nostalgic songs of the romantic "boleros", to the eloquent images of Ruven Afanador's 1000 kisses, to Buika's intense, mestizo voice, to the double erotic sense of "Tres" by Azucar, to the rhythms of salsa, timba and Latin jazz, alike coffee, originating from the New World, they flooded all continents.
About Latin Café:
The Latin Café Dance Company was founded in 2010 as a result of a choreography laboratory led by Katina Genero and it reunites young dancers and choreographers of different nationalities - Italian, Polish, Cuban, Peruvian, in a confrontation of ballet and dance, having in the background the wide range of feelings and emotions aroused by the taste of coffee.
About Katina Genero:
Dancer, choreographer, maestro and writer, known for bringing African dance to Italy, with "Ritmi E Danze Afro", produced together with her brother, the famous percussionist Bruno Genero. Pioneer of the cultural encounter between music, dance and theatre, Katina Genero had from 1979 to the present day a rich artistic and cultural activity, being involved in numerous theatre productions as a choreographer and scenographer. The versatile spirit as well as the capacity to enter into a deep contact with the language of other cultures brought her several international collaborations. The passion for Latin language was present throughout her entire career, first in the form of dance and then as a project of choreographic research, materialized in the end through the foundation of the Latin Café company.
Katina Genero explores together with the company members new interactions between ballet and dance, between entertainment and scenic art in the Latino gestural and musical scene, which is so little exploited in theatre, revealing a poetic universe, surprisingly rich, loaded with a strong and vital energy, but also with a refined lyrical signature.
