Nick Upper
Nick Upper (Niko Goršič) graduated at the Drama Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana in 1970, where he studied history of art and was educated in music as well. When he retired from 1970 to 2007, he was a member of the Mladinsko Theatre.
As an actor (in theatres, films, television, radio and in show business performed more than one hundred roles) and as a director he was involved in many important and award-winning performances at festivals in Slovenia and abroad.
As a director, he is known under the pseudonym Nick Upper. For his work he received a multitude of awards and acknowledgements. He was a journalist, dance and art critic, editor and writer of poems, short stories and scientific articles. He founded several dance and art awards. He deals with photography, music for theatre and literature. On the territory of the former Yugoslavia, he raised the awareness in theatrical postmodernism. In the seventies he has already also appeared as a performer and he introduced the puzzle technique in acting. He is a synonym for the alternative creator and is an artist researcher. In 1999, he founded the Global Theatre, in which he explores the interaction of theatre and drama performance.
