On the most fervent December day, “1989. The Diary of a Revolution” is broadcast on Romanian Television
On Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020, 31 years since the day that changed Romania, the Romanian Television will present the latest production dedicated to the event of that time, the documentary 1989. The Diary of a Revolution, recently created by Carmen Lidia Vidu and produced by the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest. This film will be broadcast on the TVR3 channel, starting 9.00 p.m.
The National Theatre of Bucharest keeps in touch with the audience, adapts, finds solutions, and honours the event that changed the recent history of Romania.
Although more than three decades have elapsed since the 1989 Revolution, many questions remain to be answered. Because there is no absolute truth, only stories that are worth telling. Everyone has a different opinion about how one was during the Revolution, whether one lived it or not. Most of the information that the population has assimilated and repeated is the 'official' information, sometimes forgetting their personal history.
After the premiere of the documentary theatre, Romanian Diary. 1989, in the summer of this year, which took place on the theatre building, within the TNB Amphitheatre, director Carmen Lidia Vidu proposes a new project, based on her recent show. This time, we will encounter elements of film, theatre, television, video mapping, aerial filming.
As in the documentary theatre show, the film blends the two types of images (official and private) to outline a more nuanced look at the 1989 Revolution.
Thus, the documentary aims to be a vehicle of communication, an invitation to dialogue, starting from the idea that one of the moral duties of the theatre is to raise awareness and engage into dialogue.
How much does our location influence us and how much do we influence the community we belong to? How is the image of the 1989 Revolution composed of the testimonials of those who lived it? These are just a few questions to which the documentary tries to offer new perspectives, in a problem to which there are no sharp answers.
In addition to the testimonies of actors Ion Caramitru, Oana Pellea, Daniel Badale and Florentina Ţilea, the project proposes interviews on topics such as 'Secret Services', 'The Ceausescu Trial', 'Revolution', 'Terrorists', created with Germina Nagâţ, Dan Voinea, Dennis Deletant, Andrei Ursu, Lavinia Betea.
"I am nervous - confesses Carmen Lidia Vidu. It is my first online premiere. This pandemic year made me research, stop, overcome, reinvent, balance ... everything. I hope I did not let this year go by in vain.
I dedicate this film to those who made the 1989 Revolution possible. I owe my life in a free country to them. Respect '89.
It was a Revolution, and I am a free individual, because the Romanian people had the courage and took to the streets.
The diaries of these actors open a dialogue about how we relate to history. We were raised with respect for fear and I think we have in us a kind of “my life doesn’t matter”, “who am I to talk”, “why should I talk when I can shut up”, “the revolution was made by others", "I'm just history with a small h."
I would be happy to see as many people as possible in this film. Watch, please partake and share", the director urges us.
The documentary can still be watched on the NTB YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/d9pUCGHnYP8), where the premiere took place on December 16th, 2020, followed by a TV premiere on Digi 24, on the evening of December 19th.
We invite you to watch this exciting documentary and not to miss the show when the gates of the theatre will reopen, and we will be able to meet again at the theatre.
