09 October 2017The show The Cherry Orchad is invited to participate within the framework of the Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre! “The Cherry Orchard - your childhood, memories of the past years, pain and happiness, ancestors… Orchard that is not longer fruitful but blossoms once in a year. This is cherry orchard - same as the past… Cherry orchard - which is your present existence, your life, which has been pawned and is about to be sold at an auction. This is cherry orchard - same as the present… Cherry orchard - territory, where cherry trees are chopped down, territory, which has been turned into a commercial country lots. This is cherry orchard - same as the future… For someone all of these can be interpreted as melodrama, drama or tragedy, as for the author - it is all comedy.” Director David Doiashvili and actors of Bucharest National Theatre try to answer all these questions and more with help from Anton Chekhov: “It’s a month of May, life is flowing, everything around me is blooming, and I know that soon I am going to die - isn’t all of these a comedy?” About Festival Tbilisi international festival of theatre is one of the most important cultural events of autumn Tbilisi. Besides Tbilisi, the festival has become one of the main performing arts events in Caucasia and in the Black Sea countries. Since the creation of the festival, and with much effort, we’ve been trying to become one of the chief “participants” on the international cultural map. The festival serves to the enhancement of the cultural landscape. Every festival has its own, unique style and many of them have attempted to become the platforms for discussion. The discussion about the differences of the forms and the stories; new attitudes and unique, brand new viewpoints; modern, unrevealed worlds and their possibilities. Escorted by the audience and the participants of the festival, we want to uncover the world which will enhance our imagination and emotions. We want to go beyond! We want to meet the cultures, yet concealed from us! We want to follow the path that the actors only will unravel to us… Festival Mission Enhancement of the cultural life in Tbilisi and Georgia by the innovative theatre productions and the well-known, creative, provocative performances; integration of Georgia on the international map of culture.
