A new edition of the JTI Meetings - Rotterdam's Scapino Ballet, for the first time in Romania
The Scapino Ballet Company from Rotterdam is coming for the first time in Romania, at the 26th edition of the JTI Meetings, the JTI Romania's corporate event, with the performance “Anima Obscura”, on June 19 and 20, 2025, at 7.30 pm, at the National Theatre Bucharest
Anima Obscura investigates the desire for immortality and is the first major production for Scapino by Artistic Director Nanine Linning. "I wanted to tell a story about our desire for immortality. In the past there were occult practices of alchemists, now there are biohackers experimenting with our human nature. As an artist, I ask critical questions about the future of humanity and that's how my idea for Anima Obscura was born," Linning explains
The performance is a monumental work for a large ensemble of dancers, in which choreography, video performance, animation, holograms, costume design and live music come together in an immersive experience.
“Set in motion and accompanied by music and dance, a comprehensive work of art has emerged that arouses strong emotions and captivates the audience”, writes Die Glocke about Anima Obscura
Scapino Ballet Rotterdam is a prestigious dance company founded in 1945 and known for its innovative productions. Scapino has played a pivotal role in the development of modern dance and, in addition to performing in theaters in the Netherlands, it has also presented performances at numerous international festivals and theaters.
"JTI is one of the few supporters of contemporary dance in Romania and we are glad that we were able to bring a prestigious company to the public again this year, with two recently realized performances in 2025. Lovers of this artistic genre can say that they are thus up to date with the latest productions presented on the world's great stages", said Antonio Vencesla, Director Corporate Affairs and Communications JTI Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria.
