The Şerban Andrei Itinerant Academy 2012

New York, 22 June 2012: the Romanian Cultural Institute and the RCI New York, in collaboration with the "Ion Sava" Centre for Theatre Research and Creation of the National Theatre from Bucharest and the Brancovan Palaces Cultural Centre, Mogoşoaia, will organize between the 8^th and 11^th July 2012 the 4^th edition of the Andrei Şerban Itinerant Academy, which will take place at the Mogoşoaia Centre.

The Andrei Şerban Itinerant Academy, the Romanian Cultural Institute's frame-programme, initiated by Corina Şuteu and coordinated by RCI New York, is conceived as a creative interdisciplinary laboratory around the artistic personality of the director Andrei Şerban, reuniting young actors, together with artists from other areas. The 4^th edition of the Itinerant Academy will take place this year in Romania with a new series of residence-workshops, housed by the Brancovan Palaces Cultural Centre, Mogoşoaia and organized in collaboration with the "Ion Sava" Centre for Theatre Research and Creation and with the help of the MARA Society.

The workshops held by the director Andrei Şerban will take place on the 8^th and 14^th July and, respectively 15^th and 21^st July 2012, and they will reunite more than 60 actors, directors, scenographers, choreographers, playwrights and musicians. The workshops from the previous years focused on the Tanacu case (2007), the work of Brâncuşi (2009) and Eminescu (2011), and this year's edition will focus on Shakespeare and Caragiale.

"[...] I responded more than once to Horia Patapievici's and Corina Şuteu's (RCI New York) invitation to preside the creative workshops with students, actors, directors, artists, and musicians. They collaborated in extremely various areas, from the Romanian villages (where we worked on such subjects as Brâncuşi at and around Hobiţa, or at Ipoteşti, with a theatrical study on "Eminescu") to New York, where we presented Tanacu's Confession, the same subject that recently inspired Cristian Mungiu for the movie awarded at Cannes. These actions had a preponderantly educational purpose, because more than 100 young people benefited, on several occasions, of a high-class technical practice and they were provoked to extend the boundaries of their knowledge. The BodyTalks Workshop led by Judith State (Part 2) 15 April 2026

April 27–30, 2026 From March 3 to 6, 2026, the “Ion Sava” Center for Theater Research and Creation hosted the BodyTalks Workshop, led by choreographer and dancer Judith State. Given the success of the working method and the enthusiasm shown by the participants, the workshop will continue with a second phase from April 27 to 30, 2026. The workshop is designed for both professional dancers and theater and film actors. With a progressive structure, the workshop will include technical exercises and short movement sequences that combine vertical and floor work with playful relaxation exercises, incorporating breathing techniques and improvisation. The workshop encourages participants’ free expression and creative potential, helping them break free from stereotypes and discover their own language of expression through movement. It also proposes exploring organic ways to combine bodily movement with the voice and attempting to bring them together, so that their alternation, simultaneity, and complementarity occur as naturally as possible. The workshop is open to actors and staff members of the National Theater. Workshop on writing cultural project proposals, “Idea. Project. Funding,” led by Oana Borș 31 March 2026

From April 16 to May 18, 2026, the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest, through the “Ion Sava” Center for Theater Research and Creation, is organizing a workshop on cultural project writing—Idea. Project. Funding. — led by Associate Professor Oana Borș, Ph.D. The workshop covers the stages of implementing a cultural project, in accordance with project management standards and in line with the requirements of a funding application. The workshop includes a theoretical component as well as a practical simulation. The workshop is intended for students and graduates in the field of performing arts. Casting Workshop led by Domnica Circiumaru 17 March 2026

How to Present Yourself Professionally at Auditions From April 6 to 8, 2026, the “Ion Sava” Center for Theater Research and Creation will host a workshop led by Domnica Circiumaru. The central theme is Casting and How to Present Yourself Professionally at Auditions. The idea behind this workshop stems from the observation that, in recent years, the relationship between theater and the audiovisual industry has grown increasingly close. Actors trained and active in theater are appearing more and more frequently in film and television projects, and the processes of casting, auditioning, and on-camera selection have become an important part of their professional journey. The sole purpose of the workshop is to offer actors a practical perspective on how casting works in the film and television industry: the relationship between the actor and the casting director, the structure of a screen test, preparing and recording a self-tape, as well as the essential differences between stage acting and acting for the camera. Domnica Circiumaru is a casting director with over two decades of experience in film and television projects, both Romanian and international. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the Casting Society of America (CSA), and the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA)—a status that has enabled her to bridge local practices with international industry standards. She has worked directly with a large number of actors and directors and has consistently participated in casting processes for productions across various industries. From this perspective, she can offer actors valuable insight into how acting performances are viewed and evaluated in the audiovisual context. The workshop is open to both actors and actresses employed by the National Theater in Bucharest and to the institution’s collaborators. Workshop led by Ada Milea 10 March 2026

From March 10 to 15, 2026, the Ion Sava Center for Theater Research and Creation will host a Workshop on Musical Improvisation and Acting, coordinated by Ada Milea. The theme of the workshop is based on the play A Lost Letter by I.L. Caragiale and represents the first stage of work and casting for a future performance-concert. The performance will be completed towards the end of the season, at a date yet to be determined. The workshop is open to actors employed by the NTB, as well as young collaborators. Work will be carried out in larger groups, but also individually. Those interested in participating in the workshop are kindly requested to register by email at centrulsavatnb@gmail.com, mentioning "Ada Milea Workshop Registration," by March 3. Important: Actors employed by the National Theater will have priority for participation in the workshop.
