“Cornel George Popa's latest novel," The Other ", has a less common subject. A woman falls in love with a photograph, just as Cătălina falls in love with the morning star in the sky.
Before continuing his story, Cornel George Popa explains brilliantly - essayistically the distinction between photograph and image. Dictionaries will have to record the distinction made by him from now on.
Then, the author returns in time - where he transports us - until the moment when Amalia, a teacher in a village, meets Gelu at a ball. The emotion of love, so hard to describe, is admirably described by Cornel George Popa. Shortly after, Amalia receives a photo as a gift: “In it, Gelu resembles an actor. Or a demon. But a gentle and approachable demon whomone begs to come visiting at night, but he is so busy that he never gets there. ”The two live their love with coyness, then get married. A few years later, Gelu dies unexpectedly in an accident. And Amalia's photo remains. Obsessed with the memory of the missing, she looks for vintage photographer Haim Leibovici and asks him to enlarge the photo to the size of a real man and to colour it.
