Last year’s edition of the National Theater Festival opened with a unique performance by Radu Afrim, a concert-performance that proposed, against the backdrop of turbulent times, a return to authenticity.

Gro(o)ve was meant to mark the beginning of a theatrical celebration—and nothing more. Conceived by Radu Afrim (associate director of FNT 2025), assisted by choreographer Andrea Gavriliu and set designer Cosmin Florea, as a one-time event—a single performance presented on October 17, 2025, in the Grand Hall of the National Theater of Bucharest—Gro(o)ve set out to live fully, in a single evening, as much as an entire season.

Filled with nostalgia, humor, and vulnerability, featuring characters straddling the boundary between two worlds, Gro(o)ve was described by the press as “a declaration of resistance through art.”

Gro(o)ve was more than just a syncretic show set to a modern sound with folk influences and accompanied by impressive visuals. It was a manifesto-like performance about identities that take shape only through encounters with others... About love, melancholy, and the act of remembering, but also about war and a unique revival of folklore.

The press coverage made it impossible for us to let such an expression of creativity fade into oblivion, and we decided that Gro(o)ve must continue into 2026. Therefore, with enthusiasm and joy, we announce that the show Gro(o)ve, a co-production of UNITER and the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest, will have two performances at the “Ion Caramitru” Hall on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Tickets for these two performances will go on sale on the website www.tnb.ro, as well as at the NTB box office, on Wednesday, May 20, at 12:00 PM.
