Oscar and the Lady in Pink – not just the story of a child unjustly wronged by fate talking to God; it's the story of all of us.
There is a disturbing message in Eric Emmanuel Schmitt's text: any one of us can be Oscar, but with a touch more luck. More gifted days means trying to enjoy life, however it is bestowed upon you - in the form of reward or punishment - without forgetting, however, to spread good around you.
"I had a particular encounter with Oscar and the Lady in Pink from the very first time and I knew immediately that I was going to do it. When I read Eric Emmanuel Schmitt's book, I felt that something clicked, it was like a miracle floating in the air. (...) The main character in this play is not Oscar, it's not the Lady in Pink, it's God."
"Why does God leave sickness and disease in this world? If he is so good, why does he leave so much suffering? I have found the answer: because life is a borrowing."
"In our century we forget about death, being so sick with pride, so eager to be the greatest, the strongest, the best, to have everything. In this state of 'drunkenness' we are told: 'You have cancer', and then nothing is worth anything, nothing matters... We realize how small we are, even though we thought we could inherit the earth." Interview with Marius Manole, Adevarul
With "Oscar and the Lady in Pink" the theatre becomes a place of excellence, where the audience comes to see the truth. The performance at the Bulandra Theatre is a profound, powerful and disturbing one about life and death.
Between "Dear God" and the final signature: "Kisses. See you tomorrow!" the life of a ten-year-old child is documented, as he lives his last days... Eric Emmanuel Schmitt's novel, dramatized and brought to the stage, takes on a breathtaking power.
Adina Mastalier, the scenographer of the show, has succeeded in creating an elaborate construction in a limited space, with numerous secret compartments, which are revealed to the audience little by little, changing the viewer's perspective and telling in images and lights the harsh routine of hospital life.
Oana Pellea (Lady in Pink) is a combination of fragility and strength, tenderness and unconditional love that immediately wins you over. The couple she makes with Marius Manole (Oscar) has a special chemistry, a sincerity that works organically on the viewer. Cristina Casian (Bacon) and Antoaneta Cojocaru (Peggy Blue) are two presences that tell the story of hope in the equation of the show (Ioana Moldovan).
