The most beautiful traditional Ukrainian dances and songs shall enchant for the first time the Bucharest audience, on 6 March 2017 in the Grand Hall of the National Theatre! Surnamed “the Flying Cossacks”, the members of the Kalyna Academic Ensemble of Kiev bring to Bucharest spectacular choreographies and folk “gems” in a wonderful epic of love and war! The artists impress the spectators through mastery and authenticity and transpose themselves in times immemorial, when mighty lads were crossing the Ukrainian forests motivated by the thirst for justice, but also by the longing for the beloved girl.
True symbol of Ukrainian culture, the ensemble consisting of choir, ballet and orchestra gathers in the current formula 47 members staging authentic folk musicals. Founded in 1981, the Kalyna Academic Ensemble has been circulating for 35 years local folklore around the world.
The shows of the Cossacks are compared to musical tableaus, in which special choreographic moments are intertwined with the mastery of interpretation. The show also features traditional instruments and Ukrainian folk costumes, of a rare beauty.
The Flying Cossacks from the Kalyna Ensemble have won over time may national and international contests and have represented Ukrainian folk art at cultural festivals in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, China, Korea, Indonesia, Chile, Egypt, Israel, Italy and many other countries.
Currently, the flying Cossacks from the Kalyna Academic Ensemble perform under the leadership of artistic director Gennadii Andriushchenko – Emeritus Artist of Ukraine. Throughout the 35 years of activity, the position as artistic director of the Ensemble has been filled by Valery Plump, Victor Lysyuk, Anatoliy Dubina, Grigori Voronov, Serghei Dudko, Tatiana Kumanovska, Andrew Veres, Valentyn Kozachenko.
