The Legendary Comedy "The Door Mat" by Ion Baiesu, in the Pipeline at NTB!
More than 30 years after the great success he had with the show "The Door Mat", director Mircea Cornisteanu returns with the famous comedy of Ion Baiesu, this time to the Studio Hall of the National Theatre of Bucharest!
The show, which has attracted tens of thousands of spectators for 13 years, shall once again have a remarkable cast with actors who have already proven to have comedy in their pocket: Emilia Popescu, Raluca Petra, Marius Rizea, Alexandru Bindea, Ovidiu Cuncea, Monica Davidescu, Tatiana Constantin, Tomi Cristin, Eduard Adam, Dragos Ionescu, Erika Baiesu, Irina Antonie and Alexandru Barbu.
"Written half a century ago and performed in countless theatres many times, "The Door Mat" stirred cascades of laughter, being, I think, the post-war Romanian comedy most tasted by all the audiences, something quite rarely encountered. Why? I believe for the mastery of the comedian Baiesu to face us with a mirror in which we contemplate ourselves as we are, without deformities. We fall withlaughter at what we see, forgetting most often that we laugh at ourselves. It would not be wrong if, for an instant, we thought we could look like those we laughed at", states director Mircea Cornisteanu, who promises a much more sparkling comedy this time than the previous enactment.
Besides, Baiesu's text is perfectly anchored in topicality. The retorts, situations and relationships of the characters are easily recognizable among our friends, neighbours and relatives. Everything departs, as the title of the play announces, from a door mat. But not any kind of mat. The play's hero, Pamfil P. Pamfil, faces a life-and-death problem with his neighbour M.N. Zisu. The latter is accused of "illegally" wiping himself every night on his "pure wool" door mat. "I have a door mat of pure wool, because I like to wipe myself off on something of good quality. It is my habit, it is my only joy in the world, "says Pamfil. To take revenge on his neighbour, Pamfil resorts to a diabolical plan, but not lacking humour. The confrontation with M.N. Zisu shall be epochal and shall ignite ripples of laughter.
The premiere of the new show is scheduled for the end of March, when viewers shall be led up "The Door Mat" and shall certainly not regret it!
