Book Launch - the Novel "The Other" by Cornel George Popa
15 October 2019The Trei Publishing House invites you on Tuesday, October 15th, 2019, from7.00 p.m., to NTB Librarium, in the foyer of the National Theatre, for the launch of the novel The Other by Cornel George Popa. The author will be accompanied by the writer Mihaela Apetrei, and the poet Domnica Drumea will delight us with reading some passages from the novel. The launch will be moderated by Laurentiu Dulman. “Cornel George Popa's latest novel," The Other ", has a less common subject. A woman falls in love with a photograph, just as Cătălina falls in love with the morning star in the sky. Before continuing his story, Cornel George Popa explains brilliantly - essayistically the distinction between photograph and image. Dictionaries will have to record the distinction made by him from now on. Then, the author returns in time - where he transports us - until the moment when Amalia, a teacher in a village, meets Gelu at a ball. The emotion of love, so hard to describe, is admirably described by Cornel George Popa. Shortly after, Amalia receives a photo as a gift: “In it, Gelu resembles an actor. Or a demon. But a gentle and approachable demon whomone begs to come visiting at night, but he is so busy that he never gets there. ”The two live their love with coyness, then get married. A few years later, Gelu dies unexpectedly in an accident. And Amalia's photo remains. Obsessed with the memory of the missing, she looks for vintage photographer Haim Leibovici and asks him to enlarge the photo to the size of a real man and to colour it. Cornel George Popa is a writer, playwright and director. He was born on July 6th, 1957, in the Popricani commune, Iasi county, graduated from the Civil Engineering Faculty (Iasi, 1986) and the National University of Theatre and Film ”I.L. Caragiale”, Film Direction department (Bucharest, 1997). He worked in the print media for over ten years (Opinia Studenteasca, Zig-Zag, Timpul etc.), then he did television, theatre, film and advertising. Translated by Simona Nichiteanu
