For the first time at NTB: 50 Seconds ... a condensed lifetime!
Daniel Oltean, DIICOT prosecutor and theatrologist, has offered UNITER, for the Best Romanian Play of the Year 2017, and, on this occasion, the National Theatre of Bucharest, the Romanian play capable of igniting a special interest. Its title is 50 Seconds, and the premiere takes place on December 13th and 14th, 2018 at the Black Box Hall, directed by Eugen Gyemant.
With a simple, nervous and piercing phrase, with a glance that looks beyond the palpable and the daily life, 50 Seconds captures the conflict of ideas, the tantrum to understand one’s own existential accidents when they occur. Two men are being examined during an investigation. One killed his mother, wants to confess and end as soon as possible, the other wants to know the truth, or the real perpetrator, or the circumstances that led to the abominable deed. The two men are studying and investigating each other, although only one has the legal right to do it. The result is unpredictable! ...
The author-prosecutor is the one who investigates, with care, the turmoil of the being in front of him, then the psychologist tormented by his own questions, then the playwright who puts them into words. The answer is unexpected!
Daniel Oltean, born in 1974 in Targu Mures, is a graduate of law and philosophy, drama and dramatic writing. A special author. With a unique professional path. Since 1996, he has been a DIICOT prosecutor in Targu Mures. He was playwright for “The Stone” by Marius von Mayenburg, directed by Theodor-Cristian Popescu, and for "Offline" directed by Laurentiu Blaga (2018 Targu Mures National Theatre), as well as a performance consultant (“Triple Point”, directed by Bogdan (Coordinated by Stefan Peca, directed by Ovidiu Caita, Studio Theater, Targu Mures, 2016) and co-author of the dramatic text for the show "The Mutants".
The intricate game that takes place predominantly in the surprising maize of the mind is embodied by the actors: Alexandru Voicu (son), Lucian Iftime (criminal prosecutor) and Diana Dumbrava (mother). On the stages of Bucharest theatres and across the country, starting with 2008, Gyemant has successfully enacted a number of important texts, such as Look Back in Anger by John Osborne (Best Director Award, Comedy Cares about the Youth, 2008), The Golden Calf by Ilf and Petrov, ArCuB, 2011 Bullets over Lipscani by Woody Allen, 2012 (award for best director at the International Marathon of Independent Theatre - Bucharest Fringe 2012), Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Godot Cafe Theater, 2012, The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, Theater Act, 2015 (Best Performance at the Undercloud 2016 Theatre Festival, awarded at the Martin McDonagh International Festival in Perm, Russia, as well as at the International Festival ArtOkraina in St. Petersburg), many other performances, the most recent ones being Leonce and Lena by Georg Büchner, Unteatru and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kessey, at Sfantu Gheorghe, 2018.
The show 50 Seconds shall premiere on December 13th and 14th at the Black Box Hall from 8.00 p.m. The next performance is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19th, 2018.
