Ilinca Tomoroveanu, Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters from France
The famous actress Ilinca Tomoroveanu, the artistic director of the I. L. Caragiale National Theatre from Bucharest, will be awarded one of the highest distinctions offered by the Ministry of Culture and Communication from France - the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
Frédéric Mitterand, the French minister of Culture and Communication mentions in the letter issued on 13th April 2012: "I address to you my most sincere congratulations for this distinction which rewards the efforts made over many years of hard work in favour of the French language and the Franco-Romanian cooperation."
The reception and the official conferral of the title Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters will take place on Friday, 26th October 2012, at the French Institute from Bucharest, starting at 18.00.
"I am very excited about my promotion to the rank of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. This distinction honours me and commits me. I have always had great admiration for the French culture, for French history and for the French people, which are profoundly linked to Romanian culture and history. I hope that in the future, together with the Romanian intellectuals and artists who are attached to the French culture, I can give again a helping hand to the good relationship between the two countries.
With an impressive career in the Romanian theatre and film industry, Ilinca Tomoroveanu is part of that rare category of artists which the theatre needs like a gasp of air: devoted with passion and commitment to a belief.
She grew up with a solid education typical to the Ardeal area. The granddaughter of the poet Octavian Goga, seemingly gifted by muses for theatre, had a high class education under the supervision of Costache Antoniu and his assistant, the director Ion Cojar.
She performed under the prestigious directorial signatures various roles from the great Romanian dramaturgy (Barbu Delavrancea, Camil Petrescu, Alexandru Davila, Mihail Sorbul, Horia Lovinescu), but also from the world dramaturgy (Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Anouilh). Her creations emanate tenderness and sensibility and, in the same time, a mysterious force and a reserved drama, which were noticed from her debut.
She had the chance to meet rich scores in memorable performances, under the baton of several great directors, belonging to different generations, from SicÄ Alexandrescu, Moni Ghelerter and Alexandru FinČi - classics of the National Theatre's stage, to Horea Popescu, Ion Cojar, Sanda Manu, Cornel Todea, Mihai Berechet, Andrei Čerban, Victor Ioan FrunzÄ and even the young Radu Afrim.
Ilinca Tomoroveanu's untiring activity in the Romanian theatre and film industry was rewarded with numerous distinctions and the recognition of her craft fellows. From 1999 she is a member in the UNITER senate. She was distinguished, in the year 2004, with the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Commander. She is the deputy artistic director of the National Theatre from Bucharest and, from 2005 to the present day, she continues to perform on the stages of the theatre to which she was dedicated from her debut.
