Ion Caramitru and several directors of cultural institutions, received at the Victoria Palace by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila
Bucharest, July 1st, 2019. Following a written request sent to the Romanian Government in the last days, a delegation of directors from institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Culture will be received on Tuesday at Victoria Palace by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila.
The delegation will include: Ion Caramitru, general manager of the IL Caragiale National Theatre of Bucharest, Andrei Dimitriu, George Enescu Philharmonic Director, Bianca Ionescu, manager of the „Ion Dacian” Operetta Theater and Calin Dan, director of the National Contemporary Art Museum.
This meeting takes place following the appeal launched by several cultural institutions in Romania, following the budget cuts, which led to the partial blocking of their activity, but also to the dismissal of some collaborators. Only in the case of the National Theatre in Bucharest the budget was reduced by 2 million lei, and the amount of the own revenue chapter was increased by one million lei.
The meeting at Victoria Palace comes as a result of discussions that a large delegation of culture leaders had on June 19th with Culture Minister Daniel Breaz, a dialogue that ultimately did not lead to any conclusion.
Also, on Wednesday, a meeting of representatives of cultural institutions will take place with the members of the Committee on Culture, Arts and Mass Media in the Chamber of Deputies.
We remind you that on Sunday afternoon, several hundred people, employees of several cultural institutions, as well as independent artists, gathered in protest in front of the Romanian Government, demanding unblocking the posts and returning to budgets allowing the institutions to function properly.
Ion Caramitru, General Manager of the National Theatre of Bucharest, hopes to have a good meeting with Government representatives to unlock the unprecedented situation faced by both the largest theatre in Europe and other institutions under the Ministry of Culture and Identity national.
