The NTB Conferences

28 January 2013

Sunday, January 27, at 11.00, at the NTB's Small Hall, Prof. Dr.Mircea Beuran will hold a conference on Polytrauma - actuality and attitude. Ticket price: 16 lei. Physical trauma, part of our everyday life, is the main cause of deathin young people and adults. Is it national ignorance? Polytrauma, according to the current definition, is equivalent to the most severe forms, life-threatening and difficult recovery. From this point of view, the complete early diagnosis and the treatment need to be organized in precise and algorithmic concepts. Variations from one country to another are primarily dictated by the financial resources, but also by mentalities that need to be changed. - Prof. Mircea Beuran "Those who ignore history must be prepared to repeat it." - George Santayana

The classic playwright's Calamity, directed by the innovative director Radu Afrim, ends the Caragiale Year at NTB

14 December 2012

The official premiere of the representation Scourge, directed by Radu Afrim will take place on Sunday, 16 December, at 20.00, at the new Media Hall. The innovative director's first meeting with the classic author will be inciting, intriguing, irritating, but it will certainly not go unnoticed. The only drama written by I. L. Caragiale, the history of female revenge, Scourge in Afrim's vision triggers emotion and suspense, in a highly sensorial, instinctive and expressive show. Mihai Călin, Marius Manole, Emilian Oprea and Crina Semciuc / Simona Popescu create an effervescent world, which is accompanied by a strange thrill given by Luiza Zan's and Valentin Luca's music. A setting which evokes the urban routine, but which is loaded with telluric details, made by Vanda Maria Sturdza, extended to a surreal parade by Cosmin Florea's costumes, which complete the haunting atmosphere of the show. "I have rarely attempted at texts from our patrimony, but when I did, I felt the need to leave traces. A tame reading for Scourge would be useless (...) I walked with Lorca, I got to a first name basis with Chekhov...Do you think that Caragiale will refuse me?" Radu Afrim The new Media Hall's opening for the public will take place at the same time with the premiere of the representation Scourge. This is the second new hall given to use within the ample reconstruction project of the "I. L. Caragiale" National Theatre. On 16 December 2012, starting at 19.00, this new space will also host an exhibition comprising 15 ample works made by the famous painter Ion Sălișteanu (1929-2011). These works are given to the National Theatre by the artist's family so that they will be permanently displayed in the main foyer of the Media Hall. This foyer will be named from now on "The Ion Sălișteanu Foyer". The access to the Media Hall is made from the Tudor Arghezi Street, at the backside of the NTB building.   Translated by: Izabella Feher

A new Caragiale premiere!

20 November 2012

The National Theatre from Bucharest announces the premiere of the representation Mr. Leonida Faces the Reaction by I. L. Caragiale, directed by Silviu Purcărete. The official premiere will take place on Tuesday 20th November and on Wednesday 21st November, at 20.00, at the Small Hall. It is a fantasy à la Purcărete, with numerous surprising moments, which rely on the extraordinary performance of two great actors. A representation in which Mariana Mihuţ and Victor Rebengiuc compose and recompose, with a devastating comic, the roles of Caragiale's undying heroes. A staging in which the setting itself, made by Dragoş Buhagiar, becomes a character, and Vasile Şirli's music potentiates with intelligence and humour the directorial intentions. Within the program announced for the Caragiale Year, the National Theatre honours, with this new Caragiale premiere, another promise. At his first collaboration with the National Theatre from Bucharest, the director Silviu Purcărete creates an unconventional show, with a refined humour, sweet and sour, of a gushing inventiveness. A show realized in collaboration with the Municipal Theatre "Ariel" from Râmnicu Vâlcea.   Translated by: Izabella Feher
