Tania Popa enters spectacularly NTB's "open doors for everybody"

20 March 2012

Tania Popa, the famous actress from Bucharest's National Theatre, invites us to the premiere of 'The Girl from the Rainbow'. A show based on a text written and staged especially for Tania by Lia Bugnar and enthusiastically accepted by the National Theatre within the program 'open doors for everybody'. 'Tania Popa is that actress that was accepted when she was 16 at the Theatre Faculty and everybody decided that she was a genius, remembers Lia Bugnar talented girl from Basarabia, surely. Afterwards we got used to her, she got used to herself too and...I don't know, it seems that the passing of time trimmed her rays. These days she will reappear in a show written and supervised by me...Now she makes it blossom in front of your windows and makes it fruit, and denude, and cuts back its branches in front of your eyes.(...) It is, possibly, the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time. Tania is more Tania than ever...she is like a punch in the stomach, she is like a jar of yogurt on the burned back of a stray in Sahara, she is like a peacock's feather fallen in the muddy tugs left by the wheel of a tractor, she is like the number from the arm of a surviving Jew, she is like a burst of laughter while you are still sad... Thus, the key words to remember are: Tania, the girl from the rainbow, The National, soon, terrifyingly beautiful.' quote from Lia Bugnaru's Facebook page. It should also be noted that Tania Popa is seconded with talent and elegance by Marian Hâncu, a young and gifted pianist. The official premiere will take place on Friday, 23rd March, at 20.00, at Studio 99, and the first representation for the public - Friday, 30th March, at 20.00, at the same familiar place situated at the ground floor of the Amphitheatre Hall.   Translated by: Izabella Feher MTTLC, Bucharest University

The NTB Conferences

12 March 2012

Sunday, 11th March, at 11:00, at the National Theatre's Black Box, Mircea Vasilescu will hold a conference on the theme Reading in the Internet Era. What is Lost and what is Gained. Ticket prices: 23 and 10 lei. For some years, we hear and read that ‘culture is dying' or that ‘people do not read as much as they used to', and the Internet is considered to be one of the culprits. In fact, people read a lot on the Internet. The Internet also makes it possible for us to access books and libraries of which we did not even dream about. What and how do people read? In what way are our reading habits influenced and changed by the new technology?    Maybe the problem is not that ‘people read less', but that ‘people read different'.

The NTB conferences

17 February 2012

Sunday February 26th, at 11:00, at the National Theatre's Black Box, Lucian Boia will hold a conference on the theme The intellectual elite of the 30's. A new perspective. Ticket prices: 23 and 10 lei. ‘We would assume that the intellectual is most of all, a free man. That does not mean that he actually is. He is submitted, like everybody else, to the historical conjunctures and the ideological pressures. In a way or another, his career is independent of the ruling Power (even more in an authoritarian regime and, without a doubt, in a totalitarian one). Not few intellectuals, for that matter, have the fascination of Power; they feel stronger, sheltered in its shade. In any case, the intellectual has an ability: to find at any time arguments to justify everything and himself. Especially when he thinks that history has given its verdict. For the intellectual, the voice of history is irresistible.' Lucian Boia More details

What was the geopolitical frame of the Romanian political elite's emergence and what was the evolution of this elite from 1848 to the present day? Who are the people that form the elite? In what circumstances becomes P.P. Carp's affirmation from 1918 real, according to which ‘Romania is so lucky that it does not need authorities? The NTB conferences

30 January 2012

Sunday January 29th, at 11:00, at the National Theatre's Black Box, the conference on the theme Europe's Destiny will be held by Andrei Marga. Ticket prices: 23 and 10 lei.          The conference resumes the question about the destiny of Europe and its rationalities. The distance is taken from Spengler and Keyserling. Nowadays, the destiny is being split in a batch of alternatives - arguments Andrei Marga. The conference clears up, as a premise for their establishment, the European identity (proposing the ‘generative concept'), ‘the sources' (Europe's major ‘inheritances'), it evokes Europe's present difficulties and the current diagnostics (‘the postmodern society', ‘the society of void', ‘the civic society', ‘the society of risk', ‘the society of communication', ‘the society of knowledge', ‘the invisible society', ‘the post secular society', ‘the infantile society', ‘the society of indifference', ‘the uncertain society'). Andrei Marga explains Europe's destiny as a result of the intermingling of alternatives in 5 crucial points: the reassuming of democracy not only as an election technique, but also as a ‘life style', the reconstruction of the social state, the reassuming of Europe's characteristic values, understanding of sciences in the context of genesis and application and theming of senses. Europe's destiny depends on a cultural anamnesis and intellectual innovations, fit for a profoundly changed world.

Reservations and ticket selling at the National Theatre

17 January 2012

The ‘I.L.Caragiale' National Theatre is in the full process of rebuilding and renovating on several levels. These days, discussions are held about the implementation of an own online ticketing system for selling and reservation of tickets for the shows. We apologize for all the inconveniences we have caused our spectators in this matter and we hope that in a near future we can put at your disposition this modern system of ticket selling. For the moment, ticket reservations can be made at all theatre shows, with the exception of The Dinner Game. The reservations can be made up to three days before the day of the performance and are valid for 48 hours. If the tickets have not been bought in this interval, the reservation is cancelled. The unsold tickets can be bought directly from the Ticket Agency. At the Ticket Agency's telephone number (021 - 314 71 71) four persons are present to answer your phone calls during the opening hours (10.00 - 19.00).
