The 2012-2013 season has started!
The following season will start at the end of September 2012, when the theatre's doors will open to the public with new representations and with numerous nice surprises: the new Small Hall, with the exhibition hall which is pertained to it, the Multimedia Hall and the NTB Gallery will be inaugurated. The new halls, with ultramodern facilities, have multiple functionalities and a variable geometry, which allows the staging of various representations.
The work at the theatre building's Section C started in July. This section houses at present the Black Box and the National Operetta Theatre. The representations from the Black Box's present repertory will be adapted and moved to the two new before mentioned halls. Due to the rearrangement and reconstruction works, the Amphitheatre Hall will disappear from the actual configuration. A part of the representations from this hall will be played on the Great Hall's stage. In this way, the theatre hopes to satisfy more efficiently the ticket requests for a series of successful representations!
The Caragiale Year 2012 is announced to be filled with true artistic provocations at the National Theatre. The first two titles of the Caragiale programme were already tested at the preview, enjoying a remarkable success: the director Alexandru Dabija certifies himself again as an exceptional artist in the dramatization of Two Lots, staged at the Small Hall, and the "choreographic theatre" representation Of Ours, the creation of the renowned choreographer and dancer Gigi Căciuleanu has already stirred the ovations of the public which was present at the Great Hall at the two representations with which the present season was closed.
Both representations will be part, in autumn, of the National Theatre's current repertory.
The names of Silviu Purcărete and Horațiu Mălăele represent, without a doubt, the guarantee that the Caragiale representations which the two artists prepare for autumn 2012 - Mr. Leonida Faces the Reaction and, respectively, A Letter - will return in the same series of staging "provocations" which the National Theatre offers to the public this year. Radu Afrim will end the series of Caragiale representations with the staging of the drama The Calamity.
Within the NTB Paratheatre - visual arts programme, the theatre's new modernised exhibition halls will be inaugurated in October 2012: the famous art critique Dan Hăulică will vouch an ample exhibition in the exhibition hall pertained to the new Small Hall, and the new NTB Gallery, situated on the theatre's ground floor, will host a splendid artistic photography exhibition, on the theme "Jugendstil in Romania", by Dr. Peter Schubert (Vienna, Austria), organized in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute of Vienna.
