The National Theatre of Bucharest announces that the last performances of the present season, at the headquarters in BÄlcescu Bld., are to be held on Sunday, June 12th, 2011. Despite the entire reconstruction site that actually shakes the walls of the theatre, the preparing activity for the next season is fully initiated: a season that will bring new shows, promising distributions and prestigious directors.
The great Bulgarian theatre director, Aleksandr Morfov, (whose show Exiles was performed at NTB a year ago) has begun the rehearsals for the show The Visit, a well-known play by the Swiss dramatist, Friedrich Dürrenmatt; the premiere will take place in the first part of the next season. Among the members of the ongoing distribution, we can only mention the main character - Maia Morgenstern - the whole list is to be made public before the end of the present season. The stage director of the show that is going to be performed in the Great Hall is the Bulgarian scenographer.
Another play that is being prepared is a reference play for the interwar Romanian theatre: Omul cu mârČoaga by George Ciprian, directed by Anca Bradu.
For another interesting project, the play The Boy in the Last Row by the Spanish dramatist Juan Mayorga, the director Cristian Theodor Popescu invites young actors (even very young ones) to audition on June 9th and 10th, 2011 for the leading male parts.
We hope that at the opening of the next season - 2011-2012, the I. L. Caragiale National Theatre will welcome its public into the first of the newest halls that will be put into use during the ongoing reconstruction project!
