The NTB Online Programme: The Last Week of June 15-21
The last week of NTB's online presence begins with the commemoration of Eminescu and ends with the show Light, at the End of the Tunnel!
In the context in which, as of June 15th, 2020, the NTB activity will resume on a real stage, that of the Amphitheatre on the roof of the building, the online broadcasts, of conferences and shows, will cease by the end of this week which promises to be marked by moments full of interest and the reunion with personalities like Ilina Gregori, Ion Caramitru, Matei Vişniec, Mihai Șora and Radu F. Alexandru.
On the day of commemoration of Mihai Eminescu, Monday, June 15th, 2020, we invite you to watch online two distinct moments dedicated to the tribute of the national poet: for the first time at NTB online the poem Morning Star, in an original version of 18 minutes, performed by 21 prominent actors of the National - starting with 10.00, and from 2.00 p.m. - an extremely interesting conference, held by Dr. Ilina Gregori and entitled When Was the Nineteenth Century? Eminescu and Modernity.

21 voices of the National recite Eminescu’s Morning Star
In the order of their appearance, they are the actors: Richard Bovnoczki , Ovidiu Cuncea, Silviu Biriș, Brîndșa Mircea, Lari Giorgescu, Tomi Cristin, Amalia Ciolan, Liliana Hodorogea, Mihai Calotă, Eduard Adam, Ada Galeș, Fulvia Folosea, Aylin Cadîr, Răzvan Popa, Magda Catone, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Axel Mustache, Monica Davidescu, Irina Movilă, Răzvan Oprea, Mihai Munteniță.
Created during the Coronavirus pandemic, in April - when the actors of the IL Caragiale National Theatre agreed to stay at home during the holidays, to be able to perform during this summer, when - we all hope - it will be possible to resume the activity of theatres, the project of the collective recital with the poem Morning Star by Eminescu was launched and created by the actor Axel Mustache.
In the idea of a joint artistic product, which would bring together as many colleagues from the troupe, to offer something unique to the audience, Axel managed to mobilize these colleagues to whom he distributed verses from Eminescu’s poem, drawn by lot, taking into account that the Morning Star and Cătălin would be impersonated by actors, and Cătălina by actresses. The Storytellers and the Creator have a mixed cast. Everything was filmed with the phone, in the actors' houses, some of them being at the first experience of this kind! An intense work followed, aiming to transform the recorded material into a cinematic product (edited by Cornel Ionescu), and what you will see is the phase that was reached after no less than five versions! Finally, the composer Călin Țopa created the original score for the background. A premiere in the true sense of the word! The recital will be broadcast on Monday, starting with 10.00 a.m.
From Tuesday to Thursday, the broadcast of the NTB Online Conferences continues according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday, June 16 - Ion Caramitru: The Limits of Expectation (the conference took place on January 28th, 2007)
- Wednesday, June 17 - Matei Visniec: Festival d’Avignon, Theatre Capital of the World (January 8th, 2017)
- Thursday, June 18 - Mihai Șora: 101. Dialogue with Mihai Șora (January 21st, 2018)
Weekend with the Romanian play Light, at the End of the Tunnel
On Friday, June 19th (4.00 p.m.) Saturday, June 20th and on Sunday, June 21st (6.00 p.m.) we give you a meeting with: Light, at the End of the Tunnel - the 2008 play of one of the most enacted contemporary playwrights, Radu F. Alexandru, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu, a formidable artist, good and attentive connoisseur of national drama.
A satire detached as if from a documentary. Well-known actors bring it to life: Constantin Cotimanis(Virgil Neacșu),Iuliana Moise(Delia Neacșu),Dragoş Stemate (Doru Maxim) and Alexandra Poiană (Luminiţa!). Two couples in which the order is made-undo-redone at dizzying rhythms.
As the author is a fine observer, screenwriter and playwright familiar with the plots of the parliamentary backstage, with the games of the political actor, with the ideologies before and after, but especially with the slowness ... of the monster placed across the road, he calls him the "sperm whale" beyond which one cannot pass, from the old phrase, which has become a cliché, all that was missing was a comma! The writer placed it, to your delight, with sarcasm and humour, at the forefront of a writing that surpasses the old dilemmas in the country where “we are going nowhere, we go round in circles”, as the director observes.
„Radu F. Alexandru presents Light, at the End of the Tunnel that robs us of all hope. Unfortunately, he is right. We still have many years to grope through the dark tunnel through which we have the feeling that we are advancing towards the bright end from which the Ode to Joy penetrates to us. Nonsense, we are going nowhere, we go round in circles! We laugh, but it is not amusing!”, Mircea Cornișteanu.
"For me, Luminița is a messenger of the "new wave ". She has the qualities we cherish most, and I am positive that she and those like her will guide us tomorrow on the path to the future. Let us follow her with confidence, she is worth it! I am optimistic!”,Radu F. Alexandru.
So let us pursue, in action, Light, at the end of the tunnel! Will she be able to do what many others have not succeeded before her? And with what outcome? The show remains in the current repertoire of the theatre and can be seen in the hall, including with Monica Davidescu as Mrs. Neacșu.
So, The Morning Star, Light, at the End of the Tunnel, The Limits of Expectation, and many other exciting titles, online, on the NTB channels, and in the week starting on Monday, June 15th!
