Memories. Gigi Caciuleanu brings back the Nocturnes of yesteryear on the stage of the National Theatre in Bucharest

11 September 2023

On the occasion of the celebration of the 95th anniversary of Radio Romania in 2023, Radio Romania Cultural brings an emblematic event to the stage of the National Theatre in Bucharest: The Nocturnes, initiated by Miriam Raducanu. On Monday, September 11, 2023, at 7 pm, at the Studio Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest, the performance Radio-Nocturn will take place. "Gigi Caciuleanu / Confessions". The choreographies of Miriam Raducanu and Gigi Caciuleanu will bring back to the stage the atmosphere of the famous Nocturne that fascinated the audience of the Tandarica Theatre since the end of the 60s. Also, Gigi Caciuleanu's confessions accompanied by unpublished images with Miriam Raducanu, The Enchanted, will recount touching moments, some never before heard, from the creative laboratory or from the backstage of these unique events of the time. At the first Nocturn 9 ½, the actor Virgil Ogasanu was the special guest, who gladly accepted to return on stage this time too. At Gigi Caciuleanu's invitation, the actor Lari Giorgescu, the choreographer Lelia Marcu-Vladu, the actress Alina Petrica and the soprano Oana Berbec will also perform. Public access will be free of charge, on the basis of invitations that can be obtained through bilet.ro. "Nocturnes, performances initiated by Miriam Raducanu at the equally courageous proposal of Margareta Niculescu, the emblematic director of the Tandarica puppet theatre in Bucharest, were for us, the artists, as well as for the audience, moments and opportunities to escape. Those Nocturnes, perhaps even more than a series of cult performances, are a metaphor, if not of freedom, at least of liberation. I was lucky enough to be with Miriam from the first Nocturne to the sixth. I was not dancing with a dancer or choreographer, let alone a teacher, I was dancing with an idea, with a METAPHOR, in the Brancusi sense, with the Enchanted, Miriam Raducanu", confesses Gigi Caciuleanu. The event will also mark the debut of Radio Romania Cultural's autumn season, entitled Memories. The recording will be available to listen to on air and to watch online on November 1, the day Radio Romania turns 95. "The first choreographies "on my own", I can say, even if this may sound a bit strange, that I did them on the radio... It was before the Nocturne. Miriam had gone to the US for a while, and I had stayed... on my own! And then I had the opportunity to participate in some recitals. To dance. Which I did. "All out". To lines by great poets, spoken by great actors... In a series of poetry events staged at the Radio Hall by Elena Negreanu. It was then that I got my first taste, in a "professional" way, of what freedom is. A freedom of creation which, on top of that, was also super-well received by an extremely special audience." Sempre Vivaldi – George Enescu Festival

07 September 2023

A Vivaldi evening hosted by the National Theatre Bucharest "Sempre Vivaldi", a concert hosted by the National Theatre of Bucharest and part of the George Enescu International Festival, promises a sparkling evening of Baroque music. The concert is performed by the baroque music ensemble Sempre and is a celebration of one of the freshest (even today, 300 years later) composers of Baroque music: Antonio Vivaldi. The Vivaldian journey includes the concerto grosso and the overture - established genres of the Baroque era. The musicians propose a repertoire variation (in six beats) that will include two of the four concertos - seasons, the passionate Triosonata "La Follia" and the impetuous motet "In turbato mare irato". For this concert, Sempre has chosen a small orchestral formula, more akin to a (slightly larger) chamber formula: seven instrumentalists and a soprano voice. The cast consists of one musician per part. This type of cast was also common in the period, often dictated by practical reasons of limited numbers of musicians or to fit into a smaller concert space. Performed by the baroque music ensemble Sempre: Cristina Vasilache - soprano, Rafael Butaru / Mircea Grigore Lazar / Melinda Beres - baroque violin, Tamara Dica – baroque viola, Lázár Zsombor – baroque cello, István Csata – baroque double bass, Raluca Enea – harpsichord. In the program: Antonio Vivaldi (1678 – 1741):- Overture L'Olimpiade, RV 725: Allegro- Concerto "L'Inverno" (Le Quattro stagioni), RV 297, for violin and string orchestra: Allegro non molto – Largo – Allegro- Concerto Grosso, RV 157, for string orchestra: Allegro – Largo – Allegro- "La Follia" Concert, RV 63, for two violins and basso continuo- "L'Estate" Concert, RV 315, for violin and string orchestra: Allegro non molto – Adagio – Presto- "In turbato mare irato" Motet, RV 627, for soprano and string orchestra: Aria – Recitativ – Aria – Alleluia. The Sempre Baroque Ensemble brings together musicians specializing in the performance of early music with over 20 years' experience in the field. The repertoire is mainly 18th century Baroque music, but the concert programs also include pieces from the 17th century and works from the period before the Classical period. The concerns of the members of the ensemble are the authenticity of the interpretation (both in terms of musical stylistics and the instruments used - faithful copies of historical originals) and the thorough musicological research, which allows to approach original repertoire concepts. The musicians who form the ensemble have attended specialization courses in early music, master's courses or undergraduate studies in this field at prestigious European institutions. SEMPRE has a modular structure, adaptable to different types of repertoire, ranging from chamber duo or trio formulas to extended orchestral formulas such as the one used in the "Sempre Vivaldi" concert. The latter is also the name of the ensemble's debut concert. A sparkling program that offers the audience an attractive repertoire that is a wonderful plea for the beauty of baroque music. Among the ensemble's productions in the last two years are "Bach by concerts" ( November 27, 2020), "Handel vs Handel" (December 5, 2020), "Sempre Vivaldi" (March 21, 2021), "Les Caractères" (November 21, 2021), "Baroque unknown" (March 21, 2022), "Bach by night" (November 27, 2022), "Sparkling Handel" (March 21, 2023), "To B or not to B" (June 18, 2023). Three Italian Tenors - In Women's Month

15 May 2023

Private event hosted by the National Theatre in Bucharest. The responsibility for the quality and content of this event lies solely with the organizer!   What could be more appropriate in the most beautiful month of the year, when the snowdrops are in full bloom and nature is beginning to come alive, than a musical journey to "Bella Italia" to the rhythms of Neapolitan cantatas and the most famous arias from Italian operas, but also with thoughts of the shores of the seas that bathe the "homeland of music", the Adriatic on one side and the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian and Ligurian on the other! And all this happens in the month when we celebrate the Woman - mother, wife, lover! And who could be more appropriate to take us through this musical story of Women's Day than the three Italian tenors who grew up listening to and singing these famous songs and arias as children? Who would feel them, experience them and sing them better than them? That's why we thought that famous arias like "Nessun dorma", "La donna e mobile" or cantatas like: "Mamma", "O sole mio", "Santa Lucia", "Funiculi, Funicula" or "Caruso", just to mention a few of the ones you will hear, will make you step optimistically into the coming spring! The performance 3 Italian Tenors is a tribute to the great tenors José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, three legendary artists who conquered the whole world with their voices and performances, and the exceptional voices of the three guest tenors, Federico Veltri, Fabio Serani and Angelo Forte, voices in the purest style of Italian belcanto, will remind the audience of the beautiful voices of those who founded this concept. The other guests who will complete our event will be no less! The Opera in Rome, the Scala Theatre in Milan, the Regio Theatre in Parma or the Mozarteum in Salzburg are the opera theatres from where the other special guests, famous baritones and sopranos, will come to try to stand up to the 3 Italian tenors! The performance will be an interactive one, the musical direction being provided, following the model of Johann Strauss or, more recently, André Rieu, "with violin in hand", by the young conductor and violin soloist Bogdan Costache, a name already known in all philharmonics and opera houses in Europe. He will conduct the famous Orchestra di Teatro D'Opera Italiana and the Vox Opera Orchestra, making it easy for you to meet famous instrumentalists from Europe and the world once again! Audiences will be humming the famous choruses of the cantatas with our beautiful chorus girls and keeping the beat with our dancers, so everyone will be thrilled and experiencing art at its best! Are you still looking for a gift for your loved one or the person who gave you life? An invitation to such a show could be the perfect gift! Won't you be coming to the great opera houses of Italy in the near future to hear the beautiful voices of famous Italian tenors in the purest style of Italian belcanto? You have the chance to do it in your city! They will come to us! In the Women's Month!   Translated by Andreea Codrea-Boeriu

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame

06 March 2023

Private event hosted by the National Theatre in Bucharest. The responsibility for the quality and content of this event lies solely with the organizer! Do you miss a story from medieval Paris?Remember Hunchback Quasimodo, the bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral? What about the beautiful Esmeralda from Victor Hugo's famous novel?Maybe not! But that's okay, we'll tell you the story in dance steps! National Premiere - The Hunchback of Notre-Dame An extraordinary ballet performance based on the novel "Notre-Dame de Paris" by Victor Hugo (1802-1885) French poet, playwright and novelist. The direction and choreography of the performance belong to the talented dancer and choreographer Vlad Sebastian, a name already known in many theatres in the country, Europe and the world. The musical story is the work of the famous musician Peter Venczel. It is a grandiose performance, bringing together for the first time on the same stage 3 professional ballet ensembles: The Ballet Ensemble of the Hungarian State Opera of Cluj-Napoca, the Ballet Ensemble of the Teatro D`Opera italiana and the Ballet Ensemble of the Vox Opera House, with more than 50 professional ballet dancers from Romania and from other countries, ballet soloists who dance in important theatres in Europe. The lighting and stage lights, special effects, 3D projections, effects with "heavy smoke" produced from dry ice, make The Hunchback of Notre-Dame the most complex ballet performance staged in our country in the last years! How long has it been since you've seen 50 ballet dancers on the same stage? Maybe a very long time, maybe never!!! But most certainly never in March, Women's Month, telling such a famous story with romantic heroes in dance steps.   Translated by Andreea Codrea-Boeriu
