James Thiérrée, the Geraldine Chapline nephew, at NTB

The performing arts prodigy, James Thiérrée, brings at the end of April his latest creation, Raoul, who triumphed on world's famous scenes such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York or London Barbican. Inspired by the world of circus, the show combines the chamber music with illusion, dance, mime and theatre having as a setting a dream world whose ropes are in the hand of a single man, facing his own madness. The show will have three performances at the Great Hall of the National Theatre of Bucharest, on April 29th, 30th and May 1st starting at 8 pm. The fact that the show is present in Bucharest is a premiere for Central and Eastern Europe, this being the last stage of a successful world tour.

Artists for artists

On Monday, March 28th, 7,30 p.m., in the Great Hall of the NTB, the show Barefoot in the Park will be staged, within the National Campaign Artists for Artists, organized by UNITER in collaboration with theatres all over the country, in order to raise funds for the elderly artists that face health issues. "It is not a secret for anyone that the salaries paid in theatres can barely assure subsistence and that none of the people who have dedicated their lives to the stage can make ends meet, even after 40 or 50 years of career. Sunday, March 13th, 11 a.m., at  "The Black Box", NTB, His Excellency Kanji Tsushima will hold a conference on the theme Japan seen by a Japanese Man Educated in Romania. His Excellency Kanji Tsushima, former Japanese Ambassador to Bucharest, has activated in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 43 years, 23 of which were spent with the diplomatic mission in Romania. Kanji Tsushima, who speaks Romanian very well, will divulge to us the way in which a diplomat who has spent most of his life abroad perceives his own country.

To find the key to Caragiale's work and an explanation for the different ways it's been perceived by both his contemporary and his successors I will make a colorful detour through the newspapers of the second half of the 19th century, mostly around 1900. And Caragiale will shadow me on this surprising road.

The CNDB Shows at NTB

For the National Centre of Dance, February is the last month spent in the place that made it famous. Beginning with March, the CNDB will perform at The Black Box of the National Theatre of Bucharest. On Tuesday, 1 March, the audience will have the opportunity to see one of the CNDB's most beloved performances: OuiBaDa - created by the lauded choreographer Gigi Căciuleanu. OuiBaDa, even more than ballet, is a piece of choreographed theatre. The style imagined by Gigi Căciuleanu was developed in France, where he served as the artistic director of one of the top National Choreography Centres, that in Rennes. It is a type of dance that he continues to currently expand upon in Santiago, as choreographer for the Chilean National Ballet, but also as an artist that has been invited to Brazil, Romania, Uruguay, Italy, Israel, Japan, etc. More details here

Tribute to Tagore

The Romanian-Indian Cultural Association in collaboration with the National Theatre and the Embassy of India invite you to celebrate the great Indian poet, 150 years since his birth. Under the title Tribute to Tagore - Shraddhanjali the foyer of the Great Hall of the National Theatre will host a short honoring show performed by a group of dancers called Natyanova (India) * on Tuesday, February 22nd, starting 12.00 o'clock.
