Romanian Heart
01 December 2014“I dedicate this show to the Romanian people, to its uncorrupted inner beauty, which one day will help heal it. Loving this beauty, it will have the power to heal others once it is out into the world.” Dan Puric “Romanian heart” is a complex show, an outburst of indignation, humour and hope, a metaphor that lifts the Romanian man out of the misery of this world in order to reveal to him a mystic perspective on history, able to make it come back to life, a testament of peerless talent and an exceptional virtuosity in expressing itself artistically. Dan Puric, through mime, theatre, dance, and other means of expression, tells the story of the Romanian people’s emergence out of communism, of its attempts to adapt to the western system, at the cost of humiliation and great suffering in the absence of a real understanding from the West. Written and directed by: Dan Puric Classical and modern dance choreography: Svetlana Zotina Greek dance choreography: Amalia Strinopoulou Romanian popular dance choreography: Costică Bălărău Costume designer: Lili Cenean Soundtrack editing: Radu Drăgănescu Sound and light: Alin Popa Director of photography: Constantin Tudose / Creativ Impact 1 December, 20:00, Studio Hall Tickets price: 99 lei, 79 lei and 59 lei. Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn - November 3
03 November 2014One of the most popular theatre productions of the past seasons, the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn is returning to the National Theatre in Bucharest on November 3. Consisting of duels of witticisms, selected poetry, refined humour and the exquisite music provided by cellist Adrian Naidin, the Caramitru-Mălăelerendezvous at the National Theatre have become a staple on the calendars of theatre aficionados in Bucharest. The actors Horațiu Mălăele and his lifelong friend, the great Ion Caramitru, both legends of the Romanian theatre, will join on the stage of the Studio Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest for a new gala edition of the most acclaimed theatre production of the past seasons: Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn. The show is an excellent challenge for two elegant and intelligent reciting masters who will humorously explore subtleties of the mind and obscure niches of the soul. Caramitru recites movingly, envisioning intelligent and ingenious responses cut out for the volcanic, irresistible and humorous Horațiu Mălăele. These are demonstrations of virtuosity in a duel of words whose witnesses are often Shakespeare, Topârceanu or Nichita. Horațiu Mălăele remains a comical genius who has thoroughly proven that he masters all of the subtleties of the mind and the soul, which he arrives at using artistic means. Probably the best exponent of the Romanian theatre in the past two decades, as Ion Caramitru describes him, the relentless Mălăele is in a perpetual quest, and therefore no two of his performances are alike. Cellist Adrian Naidin has accepted the invitation of providing this unconventional spectacle of words with a rhythm. “Uttered, the sound could become a word”, says Mr. Naidin. “There are connections between word and sound. Both have the same origin: the spirit. Both emerge from the soul”, he says. Translated by Diana-Crezante Raicev MTTLC, University of Bucharest

29 September 2014One of the most fashionable theatre productions of the past seasons, the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn is returning with a new gala edition to the National Theatre in Bucharest on September 29. Consisting of duels of witticisms, selected poetry, refined humour and the exquisite music provided by cellist Adrian Naidin, the Caramitru-Mălăele rendezvous at the National Theatre have become a key element on the calendars of theatre aficionados in Bucharest. The actors Horațiu Mălăele and his lifelong friend, the great Ion Caramitru, both legends of the Romanian theatre, will join on the stage of the Studio Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest for a first gala edition of this season of the most acclaimed theatre production of the past seasons: Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn. Having reached its fourth season of completely sold out performances, both in Bucharest and in tours around the country, the Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn show begins the new season with a series of gala editions. You are kindly invited to rejoin the three artists in the theatre hall at the beginning of a new year, so that, in the words of Horațiu Mălăele, “throughout the rest of your life you should laugh, for laughter is the music of the soul, you should play, for it is the secret of youth, and you should love, for it is the very reason of living”. Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning the Yarn - June 27
27 June 2014The two legends of the Romanian theatre will be on a tour again, performing the playSpinning the Yarn, a seductive duel of poetry, fables, morals, short stories and memories. Always surprising, always different and exceptional, Spinning the Yarn is an improvisation performance... ̒̒ ̒ because improvisation represents actually the supreme state of the actor, as Horațiu Mălăele states. Every time it is performed, the play is different, the humor is livelier, and the proficiency becomes more and more obvious. The memory of old times is brought up in the scene by Caramitru, who recites thrillingly and, with intelligence and talent, imagines answers suitable for Horațiu Mălăele, volcanic, irresistible and with a sparkling humor, the two of them being witnessed by Shakespeare, Eminescu or Topârceanu. The dialogue is completed by the gentle and colored musical replicas of cellist Adrian Naidin. With his extraordinary voice and perfect technique, Adrian Naidin has always impressed the music lovers. Sometimes, he performs as if he were a whole orchestra, and other times he paints or whispers lines of poetry. Adrian Naidin has inspired the Greek director Mihalis Kakogiannis, while the Latvian musician Mischa Maisky , also called the Paganini of the cello, considers him one of his most talented apprentices. Despite his background and education which are rather oriented towards classical music, the cellist Adrian Naidin has also experimented with other languages, from abstract contemporary jazz, up to world music or pop music. In ethno-jazz he has succeeded from his first attempt, in the great performance Damian ʼs Fire, directed by Damian Drăghici, in 2011, in Bucharest. He composes scene music, and collaborates with Alekton theatre of Athens. Graduate of Gheorghe Dima Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca, licentiate in cello and chamber music, Adrian Naidin has improved his abilities by studying with the musician Mischa Maisky. He made his debut in 1988 at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj Napoca, and, since 2011, he is a member of the National Radio Orchestra of Bucharest. During their career of many years, Ion Caramitru and Horațiu Mălăele did not have the opportunity to chance replicas, neither in film, nor in theatre, although the public was waiting for a dialogue between the two of them who, apart from experience and talent, share the love for theatre and poetry. The multi-awaited moment has arrived in autumn 2011, when the two powers have united for the first time on the same stage. Very well received by the public from all over the country, the play is a sell-out every time it is performed, both in Romania and in the tours for the Romanians abroad. Baile de palabra – Mercedes Ruiz's troupe performs flamenco dance
16 May 2014Every year, as usual, since 2010, Cervantes Institute in Bucharest and Spanish Embassy in Romania, have observed the tradition and presented flamenco-goers, a dance performance. In 2014, the guests are Mercedes Ruiz's dance group, founded by the same dancer, who in the dance performance Baile de palabra features with the guitarist Santiago Lara and the singer-songwriter David Lagos, directed by Francisco López. In collaboration with Bucharest National Theatre and the support of Cervantes Institute Group of Sponsors. May 16, 8:00 p.m., Studio Hall About the performance “Baile de palabra” is a dance performance which has grown on me over the years and which is already part and parcel of my artistic creation. A dance performance that as my artistic career has developed, it has improved. Moreover, my flamenco artistic creation, understanding and expressiveness have grown; also, the way in which I have learned to showcase my flamenco understanding and style, without recourse to the usual style of dancing. By way of my grasp of flamenco, I can get closer to its essence and its use of guitar so that my flamenco style be original, be closer to its roots. Both in “Baile de palabra” and in my previous dance performances I have integrated a new flamenco style of dancing and new choreography, the upshot of which has been showcased in a performance and a style of dancing that is very personal and up-to-date and in which I convey my deference to the flamenco tradition. In this performance that I have envisioned as a “flamenco indoor perfornamce” I wish to be able to send the message of an authentic flamenco dance, “my dance of honour” - “Baile de palabra”. Camil Petrescu National Colloquium
23 April 2014In 2014 when we celebrate 120 years from the birth of Camil Petrescu (9th/22nd of April 1894), the Cultural Foundation that carries his name and the magazine Theatre today (Teatrul azi) (the successor of the publication founded by the writer in 1956) want to celebrate him in an independent setting from the conjuncture jubilees promoted with a lot more diligence by the current deciders of Romanian culture. The main event of the programme which they named Camil Petrescu Year will take place on Wednesday, the 23rd of April, at 11:00 a.m., in the National Theatre of Bucharest's Media Hall and in its foyer. On the International Day of the Book and Copyright, nationally celebrated along with Librarian's Day, the "Camil Petrescu" Cultural Foundation and the magazine Theatre today (Teatrul azi) are organizing with the support of the Writers' Union of Romania in partnership with the "Ion Sava" Researching and Theatrical Creation Centre of "I. L. Caragiale" National Theatre and with the National Museum of Romanian Literature the colloquium through which they are suggesting to reassert in the consciousness of the contemporary public (especially the young one) a personality and a creation that are still ignored for their essential values. The National Theatre's manager between February and December 1939, Camil Petrescu - novelist, dramatist, theatre theorist, philosopher, poet, journalist, magazine creator and manager, redoubtable polemical spirit of his era - will be evoked at the NTB's Media Hall by personalities of Romanian culture such as Nicolae Manolescu, George Banu, Paul Cornea, Ion Vartic, Ioana Pârvulescu, Natalia Stancu and Cornel Ungureanu. The actors Ilinca Tomoroveanu, Șerban Cellea, Marius Stănescu, Emilia Bebu, and Vlad Logigan will be reading pages from Camil Petrescu's creation. The hosts of this event will be Ioana Pârvulescu and Florica Ichim. At the beginning of the colloquium, at 11:00 a.m., the public is invited to visit, in the Media Hall's foyer (the entrance from Tudor Arghezi Street), the Camil Petrescu - 120 photo-documentary exposition, conceived by Ofelia Creția and generously offered by the National Museum of Romanian Literature. The colloquium will be completed by the presentation of the most recent titles from the author's series of the Camil Petrescu Cultural Foundation: the complete collection in anastatic edition of the interwar publication The Literary Stronghold and also a bipolar book containing the piece Caragiale in his period written by Camil Petrescu and The Process of "Camil's Comrade", document of literary history owed to Ion Vartic. Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn
07 April 2014The two legends of the Romanian theatre embark on a national tour with the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn, a fascinating dialogue on poetry, fables, jokes, tales and memories. Always impressive, innovative and unique, the show "Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn", is an improvisation show..."because improvisation comes naturally to an actor", as Horaţiu Mălăele said. The show constantly reinvents itself, it has a whole new rhythm , the humour becomes more entertaining and the creativity blossoms. The remembrance of the past times is brought on stage by Caramitru, who recites with deep emotion and cleverly and skilfully comes up with answers that suit Horaţiu Mălăele's volcanic temper and irresistible charm as well as his sharp sense of humour, the two evoking Shakespeare, Eminescu and Topârceanu. Their dialogue is accompanied by the cello player Adrian Naidin's warm and cheerful harmonies. Due to his unique voice and amazing skills, Adrian Naidin has always touched a deep cord in the music lovers' hearts. He sometimes performs as if an entire orchestra was playing, and at other times, he recites or whispers lyrics. The Greek director Mihalis Kakogiannis was inspired by Adrian Naidin and the Latvian musician Mischa Maisky, also known as "The Paganini of the Cello", considers Adrian to be one of his most talented students. Even though he has studied classical music, the cello player Adrian Naidin has experimented with other genres as well, ranging from the abstract notions of contemporary jazz to world music and pop. He was successful with his first attempt to play Ethno Jazz, for the extraordinary show "Damian's Fire", staged by Damian Drăghici in 2001, in Bucharest. He is a musical theatre composer, who among others, has collaborated with the Alekton Theatre in Athens. He graduated from Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, with a degree in cello playing and chamber music; the musician Mischa Maisky helped him improve his skills. He made his debut at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca, in 1988 and has been a member of the Romanian Radio National Orchestra since 2001. Throughout many years of an extraordinary career, Ion Caramitru and Horațiu Mălăele had never had the chance to appear together in a movie or a theatre play, despite the public awaiting a performance that would bring the two actors together, who not only share their love for theatre and poetry, but also their experience and talent. The highly anticipated moment came in the fall of 2011, when the two personalities joined forces for the first time on stage. Acclaimed by audiences all over the country, it is always a sell-out performance both in Romania and for Romanians living abroad. The show will take place on the 7 April, at eight o'clock in the evening, at the Studio Hall. Translated by: Apetroaei Diana MTTLC, University of Bucharest Cumpără Bilete Online
