This weekend, the Romanian play "God Dresses from the Thrift" by Iulian Margu, directed by Ion Caramitru, tops the online bill! A new week of online conferences at NTB. On the weekend, for the third consecutive week, after "Scourge" by I.L. Caragiale and "Allegro, ma non troppo" by Ion Minulescu, the Romanian play claims a privileged place. This weekend, as well, offers us the chance to meet again some of the actors that we, like you, are eager to meet again in the theatres. Over the weekend, we invite you to watch the play God Dresses from the Thrift by Iulian Margu, directed by Ion Caramitru. The show was recorded in the initial cast, in which the female lead role, the character around whom the whole play revolves and in whose house the plot is set, the Shrew - as the fellow citizens nicknamed her, is impersonated by the late actress Florina Cercel. In the cast of the show you will encounter further popular actors, Lari Giorgescu, Dorin Andone, Carmen Ungureanu, Teodora Mareş, Armand Calotă, Fulvia Folosea, Eduard Adam, Ioan Andrei Ionescu. "The main story is divided in several sections, portrayed in multiple eras and reconstructed only at the end of the play, in order to fully understand the narrative- states the show's director, Ion Caramitru. From a stylistic perspective, it features two types of humour: one brash, the other roundabout. The play’s many references compose a symbolism which transcends the moulds of time and space." Or, in other words, "a brief history of modern Romania told with the help of an enchanted piano", as the author of the play says. The playwright Iulian Margu was born in Vâlcea, on January 15th, 1958. He has been writing drama and directing since the 1980s. He built his career between two passions, balancing with artistic sense between theatre and film. Most of his dramatic writings are satirical comedies, the author being constantly attentive to the role of theatre as a mirror of society, a mirror that not only reflects, but also forces one to interact. The show garnered raving reviews and critical acclaim, arousing interest not only among genre chroniclers. "The idea that the process of communism can comprise comedies has startled me and made me curious, all the more because I was assuming that the work of a young man, belonging to the generation for whom the memory of communist persecutions is reduced to the fact that they were forced to cut their long hair or beard. Allegro ma non troppo by Ion Minulescu, directed by Răzvan Popa, this weekend's show, broadcast on the NTB Youtube channel, is a sentimental comedy, a stroll in the charming interwar era with love affairs and dramatic suspense, an ingenious mix between theatre and reality, in which adultery is committed under the eyes of the husband, under the guise of a fictional play. A dramatic author performed with great success in his time, director of the National Theatre of Bucharest in 1926, Ion Minulescu (1881 - 1944) is known nowadays especially as a poet of Romances. Although during his lifetime, the writer believed that posterity would acknowledge him especially for his plays, the history of literature chose a different destiny. His dramatic writing deserves to be rediscovered even nowadays, decades after the first stagings at the Bucharest National, for lively dialogues, alert humor, naturalness of the story, intellectual zest, originality of the writing. Actor and director, Răzvan Popa, with the intuition of a successful choice, revealed at the date of the premiere the impression left by the play after the first reading: “It seemed to me of a striking topicality. Everything was like what was happening right now. Formal marriages, which decompose at the touch of the long arm of the law, between millionaires and millionaire politicians, artists who do not find their place in society, custom-made celebrities, millionaires who become celebrities in order to become even richer ... Here's what attracted me to the text of this writer, an almost unknown playwright, compared to the well-known Minulescu as a symbolist poet ”. Critics and playwrights, present in the audience at the premiere in 2014, also embraced the choice of text, the performance and the pace of the show adapted to the subject. The Scourge of the classic, directed by the innovative Radu Afrim, ended in force the very successful programme, 2012 - Caragiale Year at NTB. 7 years since its premiere, the show that inaugurated the Media Hall, one of the halls with which the theatre was enriched after the reconfiguration, is preparing for a new release in the world. With the same surprising scenery, this weekend, Scourge will celebrate another… premiere, moving from the space of a theatre to the virtual space. The new premiere is due to the images recorded by the operator Mihai Bodea and the editing by Radu Stancu. Scourge, to be seen now: online! A strong sensory show, out of the ordinary, intriguing, maybe, but it will certainly not go unnoticed this time either. The National Children's Theatre has not taken a vacation! Online, find a magical story a day!Marian Ralea, the Magician of Stories, and the Abracadabra National Theatre for Children propose to children, young and old, a Magical Story a day. In accordance with the measures arising from the application of Decree no. 195/2020 regarding the establishment of the state of emergency on the Romanian territory, all performances, public manifestations and other activities held within the premises of the I.L. Caragiale National Theatre of Bucharest are suspended for the entire period of the state of emergency.  In view of these legal provisions, the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre announces that it will change the usual structure of the season, which supposed its closure in July and August, following, this year, to the extent that the epidemiological context will allow, to schedule shows throughout the summer months - June, July and August. Performances from the theatre's current repertoire, including rescheduled ones, will be performed on the stage of all halls - the Grand Hall, the Studio Hall, the Painting Hall, the Black Box Hall, the Small Hall, the Media Hall - spaces equipped with air conditioning and climate control. We will also reopen the summer outdoor season, at the 300-seat Amphitheatre on the NTB roof, as part of the highly successful programme, Amphitheatre, summer nights, up, on the theatre (theatre, dance, music, film). The theatre’s actors and the technical stage body have been consulted in connection with this proposal, which also involves the reorganization of their private life, the rescheduling of family holidays, travel, and other commitments. The unanimous and joint response was Yes, we perform this summer!, an answer that is a wonderful profession of love for the audience! Dear viewers, we are convinced that you will also answer this call to return to the theatre as soon as possible! The "I.L. The suspension of the NTB shows and other cultural activities with audience for a period of time that seems to extend beyond March 31st, 2020, has dramatic effects at financial level, risking the institution's collapse. Every day without performances, the theatre loses considerable amounts. These are intended for the functioning of the institution, for utility payments, for maintaining the building and, last but not least, for preparing and producing new shows, honouring copyright and paying external collaborators, mostly young actors. All shows canceled during the crisis period will be rescheduled, with tickets already purchased remaining valid. Spectators who can afford to have the patience to reconvene at a later date with their favourite actors and the NTB shows they want to watch, are asked not to request reimbursement of tickets purchased for performances postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.* Thus, it helps the theatre to carry out the activity of rehearsals and preparation of new premieres - behind the doors temporarily closed to the public. It is very complicated to give back, day by day, the proceeds for almost 1400-1500 spectators that we had every day. You realize what an ordeal!
