Macbeth by William Shakespeare, study-production produced under the auspices of the ‘Ion Sava' Theatrical Creation Center at the NTB.

Rarely staged and considered, in the web of theatre superstitions, to bring bad luck, at the NTB, Macbeth is a living, acutely modern, literary material that carries universal significance. With laser precision, Radu Penciulescu - well renowned director and pedagogue, creator of an anthological production of ‘King Lear' in the 1970's, which unleashed a war of opinion in the Romanian media - describes a world torn by intrigue and plots, a rough, cruel world, one much like today's. Staged with assumed minimalism, which doesn't deny the tragic poetry of the forever unfair clash between Man and History, the show is, at the same time, a tribute to Theatre, with its mysteries and secrets, but especially to the Actor, the vital presence of this art that has had thousands of years of allure.

Ion Caramitru, leading actor, and Valeria Seciu, Lady Macbeth, return on the stage of the National Bucharest Theatre a few decades after their debut, in an uncommonly expressive duel-duet.
