I want to remain rational, sober and with love for the world and life. I want to be able to do quality things, whether I am on stage, on the internet or on TVR 2. I want to still have the sense of the ridiculous, to be able to express myself freely, to live my part of the world and art, which even if not always coincides with the great mass of mediocrity, it is full of beauty and height. I want to be able to create and continue to offer what I mean! I would also like to have the good fortune to go far beyond the age of 45, in which I will do the same and have the same aplomb.” Paul Surugiu Fuego Paul Surugiu Fuego is an independent artist who has been able to stay on the barricades for so many years and offer his audience diversity, quality and professionalism. The Magic of Music at NTB
19 June 2021Private event hosted by the National Theatre of Bucharest. The organiser is exclusively liable for the quality and content of this event! When the same stage becomes the site of a vast musical journey, taking the audience under the spell of the immortal waltz, café concert music, symphonic chords, the unique tonalities of jazz and jazz manouche, and poetic cadence, then surely this place can only be one of musical magic! And when the journey unfolds under the dome of the Bucharest National Theatre, accompanied at every step by the grace and mastery of artists such as accordionist Emy Drăgoi and the Grand Orchestra, composer Eugen Doga and actor Ion Caramitru, then the excitement and joy of magic become all the greater, to the horizon of the miracle that can approach all those who feel its call and vibration. Such a curtain opens the show The Magic of Music at NTB on June 19th, 2021 at 7.00 pm, to those who are expected to take their seats in the Grand Hall of the National Theatre, and open their hearts to the musical chords that come from history, from Grigoraș Dinicu, Django Reinhardt or Paganini and to which the artist Emy Drăgoi and his orchestra have proven not once that they know how to give them unparalleled interpretative valences, but also from the present composer Eugen Doga, who is recognised by a special UNESCO decision as the author of one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century. After a long period of restrictions and estrangement, The Magic of Music at NTB is more than a show about getting closer to music, trying to soothe the artists' longing for the stage and the audience they respect, but also the audience's longing for the artists they love. And where music resonates and love is felt, everything becomes magic! Translated by Simona Nichiteanu
La Vie en Rose
06 March 2021Concert-Show Emy Dragoi & Grande Orchestra What happens when the music in the "City of lights" encounters the music in Little Paris? A show loaded with energy, colour and passion, a show that brings along, then transmitting them to the public, the melody of the accordion, the perfume of music from famous Parisian neighborhoods and authentic Romanian folk harmonies reinterpreted. Grande Orchestra and Emy Dragoi set the stage for a musical collaboration full of fantasy and originality, which will take the spectator from the streets of Paris, from the bridges of the Seine, from the small bistros in Montparnasse to the Bucharest bridge Mogosoaia, the famous Royal Palace and the well-known passage, Lipscani. All in a festive atmosphere, in the style of the twenties and thirties, on the rhythms of some musical genres - swing and manouche - with a special charm, which have made and continue to make history. A milestone show that faces the audience with total artists: Emy Dragoi, Ion Caramitru, Toni Grecu. Along with them will appear on stage Grand Orchestra - an orchestra that gathers valuable instrumentalists: 20 violinists, piano, percussion, bass, guitar, etc., Alls'choir - a choir consisting of soloists from the Romanian Opera in Bucharest, but also Magic Violin. The hypostasis in which artists present themselves to the audience may seem unusual, but is fully justified by their artistic background. Emy Dragoi is an artist who does not need any more introductions. He has won countless competitions, played on the most important stages of the world, reached the performance of being designated, even in France - the homeland of the accordion - as the "Accordionist of the year". “I was born in Prahova, to a family of musicians from the Slanic Valley. My parents, uncles, distant relatives, were all in the news, being called to weddings and other parties. My father was giving accordion lessons and I keep alive the image from the summers of my childhood when, under the walnut tree in the yard, he sat for hours surrounded by students. Both parents performed both instrumentally and vocally, being cherished especially for the performance of old songs. My whole childhood, like my whole life, is related to music. There are many memories, but I have never forgotten nor will I forget the day when, at the age of only 3, I received my first accordion as a gift. I feel best on stage. Out of respect for the audience, I am never satisfied with what I do and I always set my mind on more. I have always admired those who managed to excel in one field or another, thus also in the musical one. Of course I compare myself to the best in the field, but not in order to copy them, but to succeed in my turn to become better and better. We promise you a show that has never been created in Romania and you may not miss it ”. Emy Dragoi Translated by Simona Nichiteanu
On the most fervent December day, “1989. The Diary of a Revolution” is broadcast on Romanian Television
22 December 2020On Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020, 31 years since the day that changed Romania, the Romanian Television will present the latest production dedicated to the event of that time, the documentary 1989. The Diary of a Revolution, recently created by Carmen Lidia Vidu and produced by the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest. This film will be broadcast on the TVR3 channel, starting 9.00 p.m. The National Theatre of Bucharest keeps in touch with the audience, adapts, finds solutions, and honours the event that changed the recent history of Romania. Although more than three decades have elapsed since the 1989 Revolution, many questions remain to be answered. Because there is no absolute truth, only stories that are worth telling. Everyone has a different opinion about how one was during the Revolution, whether one lived it or not. Most of the information that the population has assimilated and repeated is the 'official' information, sometimes forgetting their personal history. After the premiere of the documentary theatre, Romanian Diary. 1989, in the summer of this year, which took place on the theatre building, within the TNB Amphitheatre, director Carmen Lidia Vidu proposes a new project, based on her recent show. This time, we will encounter elements of film, theatre, television, video mapping, aerial filming. As in the documentary theatre show, the film blends the two types of images (official and private) to outline a more nuanced look at the 1989 Revolution. Thus, the documentary aims to be a vehicle of communication, an invitation to dialogue, starting from the idea that one of the moral duties of the theatre is to raise awareness and engage into dialogue. How much does our location influence us and how much do we influence the community we belong to? How is the image of the 1989 Revolution composed of the testimonials of those who lived it? These are just a few questions to which the documentary tries to offer new perspectives, in a problem to which there are no sharp answers. In addition to the testimonies of actors Ion Caramitru, Oana Pellea, Daniel Badale and Florentina Ţilea, the project proposes interviews on topics such as 'Secret Services', 'The Ceausescu Trial', 'Revolution', 'Terrorists', created with Germina Nagâţ, Dan Voinea, Dennis Deletant, Andrei Ursu, Lavinia Betea. "I am nervous - confesses Carmen Lidia Vidu. It is my first online premiere. This pandemic year made me research, stop, overcome, reinvent, balance ... everything. I hope I did not let this year go by in vain. I dedicate this film to those who made the 1989 Revolution possible. I owe my life in a free country to them. Respect '89. It was a Revolution, and I am a free individual, because the Romanian people had the courage and took to the streets. The diaries of these actors open a dialogue about how we relate to history. We were raised with respect for fear and I think we have in us a kind of “my life doesn’t matter”, “who am I to talk”, “why should I talk when I can shut up”, “the revolution was made by others", "I'm just history with a small h." I would be happy to see as many people as possible in this film. Watch, please partake and share", the director urges us. The documentary can still be watched on the NTB YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/d9pUCGHnYP8), where the premiere took place on December 16th, 2020, followed by a TV premiere on Digi 24, on the evening of December 19th. We invite you to watch this exciting documentary and not to miss the show when the gates of the theatre will reopen, and we will be able to meet again at the theatre. 1989. Innovative exhibition of restored goods from the Collection of the Bucharest National Theatre
08 December 2020On December 8th, 2020, starting with 1:00 p.m., the lobby of the Grand Hall of the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest, will host the first promotional event of the project Innovative exhibition of restored goods from the collection of the Bucharest National Theatre Museum, a project financed by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 within the RO-CULTURE Program. The opening conference of the project will be attended by representatives of the beneficiary of the funding - the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest, as well as project partners: National Art Museum of Romania, National Village Museum "Dimitrie Gusti", National Military Museum King Ferdinand I and the National Library of Romania. The conference will be broadcast live, online, on NTB YouTube channel and on the Project and NTB Facebook pages. The project aims to improve the management of cultural heritage, improve cultural entrepreneurship, develop new skills and create new jobs. The project will lead to the organization of an innovative exhibition that will bring to the public 38 restored movable property, the development of new skills in the workplace for project team members and the creation of 3 new jobs at the NTB Museum. The "IL Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest is, at national level, the only public institution of performances that holds in its patrimony impressive collections of cultural goods, historical mirrors of the evolution of Romanian drama and performing arts. Following the reconstruction and redevelopment of the National Theatre, a generous space (650 sqm) was devoted to the NTB Museum, in which spectators and visitors have access right from the main entrance of the theatre, from the Grand Hall lobby. In recent years, the NTB Museum has undergone an extensive process of reorganizing and reinventing the collections it holds. The data resulting from the inventory show that the collection of the NTB Museum comprises 227 paintings, 213 sculptures, 500 drawings, 157 costumes and accessories, 390 decorations and medals, 150 personal objects of the actors, and in the museum's warehouses there are numerous posters, photos and prints that will enter the collection of the National Theatre Library. The reorganization of the Museum is achieved on modern principles and according to the rigours of the Law on Heritage, Museums and Collections and the rules on inventory, restoration and classification of movable cultural assets, being a real challenge for the NTB team. The project "Innovative exhibition with restored cultural assets" is therefore a welcome support for the performance in the best possible conditions of these activities and a significant step towards the reopening of the Museum to the general public. The project responds to the needs expressed both by the target groups (actors and technical and administrative staff of the Bucharest National Theatre, theatrologists, historians and theatre critics in Bucharest and in the country), and by the NTB audience. According to a market study conducted by NTB in 2019, among the population of Bucharest, aged 18-64, NTB attracts the largest audience segment - approximately 45%. The NTB audience is the most culturally active, 6 out of 10 of the NTB spectators have attended more than 6 artistic events in the last year and most of them went, in addition to theatre performances, to museums / exhibitions, cinema, concerts. Taking into account these data, the project aims to increase the number of visitors to the Bucharest National Theatre by at least 30%, targeting especially young audiences, in line with the slogan promoted by the current NTB communication team: "A new theatre for a new audience. ” The project activities will be carried out by the teams of the "IL Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest in collaboration with the teams of the four partner institutions. The Bucharest National Theatre will ensure the management of the project which involves permanent monitoring of all activities, communication and relations with partners, expertise of cultural assets, preparation of documentation for classification of assets, submission to the National Commission of Museums and Collections, monitoring of acquisitions and financial operations project, communication and promotion of the project, as well as the organization of the innovative exhibition. The project partners, through their own restoration departments and specialized laboratories, will carry out the examination, physical and chemical investigations, treatment, conservation and restoration of the heritage objects that will be entrusted to them. The opening conference of the project will present to the public, through the guests present at the event, details about the objectives, activities, results of the project, as well as team members who will take part in their activities: managers, restorers, experts. The event will also be attended by representatives of the RO-CULTURE Program by which the project was funded. *** EEA grants represent the contribution of Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Kingdom of Norway to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area and to strengthening bilateral relations with the 15 beneficiary states in Eastern and Southern Europe and the Baltic States. The project White Accordion Nights International Festival - 11th edition, in Romanian musical life, registered in the field of "Performing Arts", proposes the organization of a concert, performed by world-class instrumentalists in accordion music, with inserts from Romanian folklore, international folklore, classical or contemporary jazz. The "White Accordion Nights" International Festival, now at its 11th edition, is a project of the artist Emy Drăgoi, whose musical career began and was accomplished under the sign of the accordion. In fact, he ensures not only the organization and artistic direction of the festival, but performs in each edition in extensive recitals, both as a performer and composer. The main aim of the festival - which has aroused the interest of the public, artists and critics throughout all ten editions so far - is to promote the accordion and to attempt - always successfully - to argue in front of the general audience that this instrument is one of the most complex, on which one can perform the most diverse musical genres, from traditional music, fiddle music, to the classical and even jazz genre. Presentation of the 11th Edition In line with the tradition, the next edition of the festival will take place on October 16th, 2020, at the I.L. Caragiale National Theatreof Bucharest. This time, the festival's program will focus on classical, tango and jazz music, along with Emy Drăgoi - considered the best jazz accordionist of the moment, both in terms of performance,- reorchestration of famous songs, pertaining to other musical genres, but also of composition - whereas famous artists are bound to perform: Domi Emorin - France, Romeo Aichino - Italy, Roman Jbanov - Russia, William Sabatier - Argentina, Ion Drăgoi - Romania, etc.. An interesting accordion exhibition will also be held, many of the exhibits being part of the private collection of the artist Emy Drăgoi. Emy Dragoi and his guests are the forerunners of the accordion's emancipation towards the freedoms offered by this musical genre. The accordion festival will present to the public a manifold programme, which includes classical music, variété, cafe concert, as well as jazz, tango, etc. The White Accordion Nights International Festival in Romania joins hundreds of other international events of traditional genre, such as Festival des Nuits de nacre, Festival d'accordéon Le Grand Soufflet.
