Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning the Yarn
27 January 2014The two legends of the Romanian theatre will be on a tour again, performing the play Spinning the Yarn, a seductive duel of poetry, fables, morals, short stories and memories. Always surprising, always different and exceptional, Spinning the Yarn is an improvisation performance... ̒̒ ̒ because improvisation represents actually the supreme state of the actor, as Horațiu Mălăele states. Every time it is performed, the play is different, the humor is livelier, and the proficiency becomes more and more obvious. The memory of old times is brought up in the scene by Caramitru, who recites thrillingly and, with intelligence and talent, imagines answers suitable for Horațiu Mălăele, volcanic, irresistible and with a sparkling humor, the two of them being witnessed by Shakespeare, Eminescu or Topârceanu. The dialogue is completed by the gentle and colored musical replicas of cellist Adrian Naidin. With his extraordinary voice and perfect technique, Adrian Naidin has always impressed the music lovers. Sometimes, he performs as if he were a whole orchestra, and other times he paints or whispers lines of poetry. Adrian Naidin has inspired the Greek director Mihalis Kakogiannis, while the Latvian musician Mischa Maisky , also called the Paganini of the cello, considers him one of his most talented apprentices. Despite his background and education which are rather oriented towards classical music, the cellist Adrian Naidin has also experimented with other languages, from abstract contemporary jazz, up to world music or pop music. In ethno-jazz he has succeeded from his first attempt, in the great performance Damian ʼs Fire, directed by Damian Drăghici, in 2011, in Bucharest. He composes scene music, and collaborates with Alekton theatre of Athens. Graduate of Gheorghe Dima Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca, licentiate in cello and chamber music, Adrian Naidin has improved his abilities by studying with the musician Mischa Maisky. He made his debut in 1988 at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj Napoca, and, since 2011, he is a member of the National Radio Orchestra of Bucharest. During their career of many years, Ion Caramitru and Horațiu Mălăele did not have the opportunity to chance replicas, neither in film, nor in theatre, although the public was waiting for a dialogue between the two of them who, apart from experience and talent, share the love for theatre and poetry. The multi-awaited moment has arrived in autumn 2011, when the two powers have united for the first time on the same stage. Very well received by the public from all over the country, the play is a sell-out every time it is performed, both in Romania and in the tours for the Romanians abroad. 27th of January, Studio Hall, 8:00 pm. Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn
23 December 2013The two legends of the Romanian theatre embark on a national tour with the show "Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn", a fascinating dialogue on poetry, fables, jokes, tales and memories. Always impressive, innovative and unique, the show "Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn", is an improvisation show..."because improvisation comes naturally to an actor", as Horaţiu Mălăele said. The show constantly reinvents itself, it has a whole new rhythm , the humour becomes more entertaining and the creativity blossoms. The remembrance of the past times is brought on stage by Caramitru, who recites with deep emotion and cleverly and skilfully comes up with answers that suit Horaţiu Mălăele's volcanic temper and irresistible charm as well as his sharp sense of humour, the two evoking Shakespeare, Eminescu and Topârceanu. Their dialogue is accompanied by the cello player Adrian Naidin's warm and cheerful harmonies. Due to his unique voice and amazing skills, Adrian Naidin has always touched a deep cord in the music lovers' hearts. He sometimes performs as if an entire orchestra was playing, and at other times, he recites or whispers lyrics. The Greek director Mihalis Kakogiannis was inspired by Adrian Naidin and the Latvian musician Mischa Maisky, also known as "The Paganini of the Cello", considers Adrian to be one of his most talented students. Even though he has studied classical music, the cello player Adrian Naidin has experimented with other genres as well, ranging from the abstract notions of contemporary jazz to world music and pop. He was successful with his first attempt to play Ethno Jazz, for the extraordinary show "Damian's Fire", staged by Damian Drăghici in 2001, in Bucharest. He is a musical theatre composer, who among others, has collaborated with the Alekton Theatre in Athens. He graduated from Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, with a degree in cello playing and chamber music; the musician Mischa Maisky helped him improve his skills. He made his debut at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca, in 1988 and has been a member of the Romanian Radio National Orchestra since 2001. Throughout many years of an extraordinary career, Ion Caramitru and Horațiu Mălăele had never had the chance to appear together in a movie or a theatre play, despite the public awaiting a performance that would bring the two actors together, who not only share their love for theatre and poetry, but also their experience and talent. The highly anticipated moment came in the fall of 2011, when the two personalities joined forces for the first time on stage. Acclaimed by audiences all over the country, it is always a sell-out performance both in Romania and for Romanians living abroad. The show will take place on the 23'rd December, at eight o'clock in the evening, at the Studio Hall. Translated by: Apetroaei Diana MTTLC, The University of Bucharest

Caramitru – Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn
20 May 2013Seductive, with irresistible humour and the profundity that made them legends, the two dialogue partners look for each other, seek to understand and test one another, in a show applauded by critics and the public alike. It was last season's revelation, a sell-out performance every time. Between the two, Adrian Naidin, the musical moderator of this enchanting show, makes wonders with his cello and an exceptional voice. His voice is tailored from a traditional authentic lode, a timbre specific to Romanian ballads of the kind that take your breath away. Last year's most applauded representation, "Caramitru - Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn" is an improvisation show, because "improvisation is an actor's state of grace," as Horațiu Mălăele says. Therefore the rhythm is always different, the show is always interpreted in full force, it is funnier and more profound from one edition to the other. "Horațiu Mălăele is the best product of the Romanian theatre in the last 20 years. A complex personality as an actor, theatre director and, more recently, as a film director", says Ion Caramitru. ‘The great artist Caramitru is formed of a malleable and ductile material, which can take the form of any artistic act that is of public interest', says Horațiu Mălăele. Flamenco evening at NTB
14 May 2013The Cervantes Institute from Bucharest and the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre from Bucharest present at the NTB's Great Hall, the flamenco dance show "Abriendo Caminos" performed by the company Úrsula López (Spain), on May 14, 2013, at 20:00. Abriendo Caminos performed by the company Úrsula López is a highly authentic flamenco show, which combines the impeccable technique of the artists on the stage: Úrsula López and Cristian Lozano - dance, Javier Patino - guitar, Vicente Gelo - voice and Raúl Domínguez - percussion - with strength, passion and knowledge of the most profound flamenco dance. Dancer formed in the high school of the Andalusian Dance Company and in the National Ballet of Spain, Úrsula López is one of those artists who preserve their personality both in collaboration with major artists such as Carlos Saura, Maria Pages or Antonio Gades and in her own productions. In the show Abriendo Caminos, for which she made the choreography, we are faced with a proposal of great elegance in setting, composed of high technical and artistic quality parts, which rely on the almost dream-like music of the guitarist Javier Patino. A show that keeps the classic scenic structure (two dancers, three musicians) and presents all the important styles of flamenco dance (seguiriyas, fandangos, romance, farruca, tangos). As the title says, the show abre Caminos / opens roads and allows both connoisseurs and those at the first meeting with a show of this kind, to be seduced by the power and beauty condensed in the flamenco culture, an immaterial UNESCO heritage. Tickets are on sale at the National Theatre's Ticket Agency (open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10.00-19.00) and on Bilet.ro. Ticket price: 60, 50 and 20 lei Translated by: Izabella Feher
Mil Besos por un café
29 April 2013On April 29, 2013, for the first time in Romania, the Italian Dance Company Latin Café, led by choreographer Katina Genero, will hold in Bucharest the successful show: Mil Besos por un café. The Romanian audience, which has a passion for dance and unconventional performances, is expected at the National Theatre Bucharest, at 20:00, to watch the show about which the prestigious Italian newspaper "Stampa" wrote: A unique show, a new vision on dance and the Latin universe. The production had its preview in Italy in December 2012, as a multicultural art project supported by "Associazione Ritmi E Danze Afro" and "Centro De Formazione Alla Danza Mamadanse", which aims to promote and value young talent, as well as music arts and choreography. Mil Besos por un café is a demonstration of choreographic skill, a show focused on the binomial dance - coffee, a journey through Latin music and the history of coffee, this "essence of the devil" that gives wings to poetry, philosophy and to the most passionate love stories, an expression of the strongest human feelings and emotions. Under the baton of choreographer Katina Genero from Turin, twelve dancers coming from various parts of the world (Italy, Peru, Cuba, Poland), but who have in common a passion for Latin music, reinterpret in a contemporary manner the Caribbean, afro and Latin Caribbean dance. Along with music, the skills of the dancers, the costumes and the scenography help to create stories filled with passion and flavour, in which all of us find ourselves. The show runs for one hour and a half. Tickets are available in three price categories: categ. VIP - 100 lei, categ. I - 80 lei, categ. II - 60 lei. The event is organized by the European Centre for Arts and by Diva's Talents. Media Partners: 24FUN, Unica, 121. ro, Modernism.ro, Metropotam, WebCultura, SalsaMagia, Bucurestiivechisinoi.ro. The story of dance and coffee In the new millennium, on all five continents, in cities and towns, people drink espresso. Thus, the Espresso can be considered the universal language of coffee. In many parts of the world, the birth of a child, going through a rite of initiation or even a marriage proposal, the closing of a business deal, are celebrated with a cup of coffee. Coffee is a beverage that has managed to integrate in various cultures, without being scared by differences; on the contrary, it values and intensifies them. From Africa to Asia, through the Middle East and Europe and arriving to the New World, coffee speaks different languages. For some it is an opportunity for introspection, for others an exciting prelude to dancing, a liberator of mystic ecstasy or simply "the essence of the devil", that creates disorder in body and soul. First served in the "Café chantants" from Cairo, in the dervish dancers' ceremonies, but also in the prestigious European literary cafes, coffee finally landed in the New World, mixing its flavour with the sound of African tambourines. All this has inspired the choreographer Katina Genero to write the story of dance and coffee. In Mil Besos por un café, coffee is sipped by dancing to the rhythms of African origin, to the nostalgic songs of the romantic "boleros", to the eloquent images of Ruven Afanador's 1000 kisses, to Buika's intense, mestizo voice, to the double erotic sense of "Tres" by Azucar, to the rhythms of salsa, timba and Latin jazz, alike coffee, originating from the New World, they flooded all continents. About Latin Café: The Latin Café Dance Company was founded in 2010 as a result of a choreography laboratory led by Katina Genero and it reunites young dancers and choreographers of different nationalities - Italian, Polish, Cuban, Peruvian, in a confrontation of ballet and dance, having in the background the wide range of feelings and emotions aroused by the taste of coffee. About Katina Genero: Dancer, choreographer, maestro and writer, known for bringing African dance to Italy, with "Ritmi E Danze Afro", produced together with her brother, the famous percussionist Bruno Genero. Pioneer of the cultural encounter between music, dance and theatre, Katina Genero had from 1979 to the present day a rich artistic and cultural activity, being involved in numerous theatre productions as a choreographer and scenographer. The versatile spirit as well as the capacity to enter into a deep contact with the language of other cultures brought her several international collaborations. The passion for Latin language was present throughout her entire career, first in the form of dance and then as a project of choreographic research, materialized in the end through the foundation of the Latin Café company. Katina Genero explores together with the company members new interactions between ballet and dance, between entertainment and scenic art in the Latino gestural and musical scene, which is so little exploited in theatre, revealing a poetic universe, surprisingly rich, loaded with a strong and vital energy, but also with a refined lyrical signature. Artists for Artists
25 March 2013UNITER launches the twelfth edition of the annual National Campaign "Artists for Artists", the 2013 edition, a unique event based on the category of beneficiaries that it addresses. Held around March 27 - the International Day of Theatre, the campaign became for UNITER, for the past 11 editions, not only a celebration of the impressive theatrical universe, but also, the praise of artists who rebuilt year by year, along their lifetime, the magic of theatre. 2002 was a success for the attempt to be socially responsible, to correct through art the system's deficiencies. With each edition we gained confidence that just by increasing the public's and the theatrical environment's awareness on the social situation of older artists with health problems, we can build through culture a valid and genuine social solidarity campaign with concrete results. This year's edition will benefit again from the participation of theatres from the country that will play a show from their repertoire in the name of this campaign. The theatres from Bucharest will be selling tickets for this Campaign for a representation dedicated to it. There will also be a charity representation, specially produced by UNITER.
