NTB Review: 12 Weeks of Online Broadcasts, 7 Days out of 7!

22 June 2020

With the resumption of the performances on the real stage, at the TNB Amphitheatre, within the program Summer Nights UP on the theater, the IL Caragiale National Theater ceases - temporarily (!) - the activity of online broadcasts that took place uninterruptedly starting with March 23rd, 2020, following the decree of the state of emergency and, subsequently, of the state of alert. Between March 23rd and June 21st, 2020, 69 conferences from the series NTB Conferences were broadcast online, as well as 9 shows, as of April 24th (in the 3 days of the weekend, with 3 broadcasts for each show, so in total 27 online broadcasts). Both shows from NTB's current repertoire were broadcast online, titles that will be repeated in theatres as soon as the situation allows (The Tempest, Allegro, ma non troppo, Lottery Tickets, God Dresses from the Thrift, Light, at the End of the Tunnel), as well as older shows from the archive (Scourge, Breaking News, Take, Ianke and Cadir, A Midsummer Night’s Dream). The quality of the recordings was different and not always perfect: the filming of older shows, performed with a single camera, from a fixed point, with sound taken directly from the camera - were only intended to archive those shows, without the intention of a public broadcast. The recent shows benefited from the material and logistical infrastructure of NTB's Media Studio (which has only been operational for a few years) and were filmed professionally, which translated into a visibly better quality of the recordings. In the context in which the online activity seems to gain more and more ground, NTB will make efforts to offer to the interested public filmed materials at the highest possible standards. We intend to continue recording, with priority, the shows from the current repertoire, in conditions of maximum professionalism, in order to ensure a quality portfolio for the next period, which will "resist" in the international competitive environment! The conferences that were broadcast online (live streaming) on NTB's YouTube channel are archived, and can still be accessed by those interested. The shows could be watched only on the announced days and times, no longer being available online after the end of the live broadcast. I found, with joy, that there is no risk of decreasing interest in the shows of the current repertoire, but, on the contrary, many spectators said they cannot wait to see those shows live, with the reopening of the halls! Here is a statistical balance of the 90 days of online activity, activity fully provided by the team within the NTB Communication and International Relations Department *: The broadcasts of conferences and shows on the NTB YouTube channel amounted from March 23rd - June 21st, 2020 to: 182,875 views (views) 49,200 hours (watch time) Compared to the initial 8,500 subscribers, further 9,000 (subscribers) were gained. Apart from the Romanian viewers (60% in April, 82.9% in May), NTB's online broadcasts were also watched by viewers from various other countries (we take May as a reference) - England 1387- Germany 1313- Canada 1116- USA 993- France 461- Israel 455- Italy 372- Spain 255- Belgium 232- Colombia (!) - 81 Thanks for the interest shown and for the loyalty of the almost 200,000 virtual spectators that we felt close in these crisis conditions and we hope to see each other healthy again in the lush foyers and hospitable halls of the I.L. Caragiale National Theatre! *NTB's Communication and International Relations Department: Adriana Popescu, Director, Anca Constantin, Head of Marketing and Public Relations, Olivia Chirvasiu, Gabriela Hamzescu, Laura Grosu, Florin Ghioca, Andreea Nae, Mihaela Cazan, Ionel Nicolaev, Gabriel Stănciuc, as well as Marius Donici, Mihai Rădinoiu and Cornel Ionescu - external collaborators of the Media Studio. 21 voices of the National recite Eminescu’s Morning Star

15 June 2020

On the day of commemoration of Mihai Eminescu, Monday, June 15th, 2020, we invite you to watch online for the first time at NTB online the poem Morning Star, in an original version of 18 minutes, performed by 21 prominent actors of the National - starting with 10.00. In the order of their appearance, they are the actors: Richard Bovnoczki , Ovidiu Cuncea, Silviu Biriș, Brîndșa Mircea, Lari Giorgescu, Tomi Cristin, Amalia Ciolan, Liliana Hodorogea, Mihai Calotă, Eduard Adam, Ada Galeș, Fulvia Folosea, Aylin Cadîr, Răzvan Popa, Magda Catone, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Axel Mustache, Monica Davidescu, Irina Movilă, Răzvan Oprea, Mihai Munteniță. Created during the Coronavirus pandemic, in April - when the actors of the IL Caragiale National Theatre agreed to stay at home during the holidays, to be able to perform during this summer, when - we all hope - it will be possible to resume the activity of theatres, the project of the collective recital with the poem Morning Star by Eminescu was launched and created by the actor Axel Mustache. In the idea of a joint artistic product, which would bring together as many colleagues from the troupe, to offer something unique to the audience, Axel managed to mobilize these colleagues to whom he distributed verses from Eminescu’s poem, drawn by lot, taking into account that the Morning Star and Cătălin would be impersonated by actors, and Cătălina by actresses. The Storytellers and the Creator have a mixed cast. Everything was filmed with the phone, in the actors' houses, some of them being at the first experience of this kind! An intense work followed, aiming to transform the recorded material into a cinematic product (edited by Cornel Ionescu), and what you will see is the phase that was reached after no less than five versions! Finally, the composer Călin Țopa created the original score for the background. A premiere in the true sense of the word! The recital will be broadcast on Monday, starting with 10.00 a.m. Video available on Youtube   Translated by Simona Nichiteanu

15 June 2020

The last week of NTB's online presence begins with the commemoration of Eminescu and ends with the show Light, at the End of the Tunnel! In the context in which, as of June 15th, 2020, the NTB activity will resume on a real stage, that of the Amphitheatre on the roof of the building, the online broadcasts, of conferences and shows, will cease by the end of this week which promises to be marked by moments full of interest and the reunion with personalities like Ilina Gregori, Ion Caramitru, Matei Vişniec, Mihai Șora and Radu F. Alexandru. On the day of commemoration of Mihai Eminescu, Monday, June 15th, 2020, we invite you to watch online two distinct moments dedicated to the tribute of the national poet: for the first time at NTB online the poem Morning Star, in an original version of 18 minutes, performed by 21 prominent actors of the National - starting with 10.00, and from 2.00 p.m. - an extremely interesting conference, held by Dr. Ilina Gregori and entitled When Was the Nineteenth Century? Eminescu and Modernity. We invite you to join us for all these events, remembering the addresses where you can find us: - our YouTube channel-http: //www.youtube.com/c/TeatrulNaţionalILCaragialeBucureşti - NTB Facebook page - https: // www.facebook.com / TNB.Ro / - NTB website, on the page https://www.tnb.ro/ro/livestreaming-tnb 21 voices of the National recite Eminescu’s Morning Star In the order of their appearance, they are the actors: Richard Bovnoczki , Ovidiu Cuncea, Silviu Biriș, Brîndșa Mircea, Lari Giorgescu, Tomi Cristin, Amalia Ciolan, Liliana Hodorogea, Mihai Calotă, Eduard Adam, Ada Galeș, Fulvia Folosea, Aylin Cadîr, Răzvan Popa, Magda Catone, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Axel Mustache, Monica Davidescu, Irina Movilă, Răzvan Oprea, Mihai Munteniță. The recital will be broadcast on Monday, starting with 10.00 a.m. From Tuesday to Thursday, the broadcast of the NTB Online Conferences continues according to the following schedule: - Tuesday, June 16 - Ion Caramitru: The Limits of Expectation (the conference took place on January 28th, 2007) - Wednesday, June 17 - Matei Visniec: Festival d’Avignon, Theatre Capital of the World (January 8th, 2017) - Thursday, June 18 - Mihai Șora: 101. Dialogue with Mihai Șora (January 21st, 2018) Weekend with the Romanian play Light, at the End of the Tunnel On Friday, June 19th (4.00 p.m.) Saturday, June 20th and on Sunday, June 21st (6.00 p.m.) we give you a meeting with: Light, at the End of the Tunnel - the 2008 play of one of the most enacted contemporary playwrights, Radu F. Alexandru, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu, a formidable artist, good and attentive connoisseur of national drama. A satire detached as if from a documentary. Well-known actors bring it to life: Constantin Cotimanis(Virgil Neacșu),Iuliana Moise(Delia Neacșu),Dragoş Stemate (Doru Maxim) and Alexandra Poiană (Luminiţa!). Two couples in which the order is made-undo-redone at dizzying rhythms. As the author is a fine observer, screenwriter and playwright familiar with the plots of the parliamentary backstage, with the games of the political actor, with the ideologies before and after, but especially with the slowness ... of the monster placed across the road, he calls him the "sperm whale" beyond which one cannot pass, from the old phrase, which has become a cliché, all that was missing was a comma! The writer placed it, to your delight, with sarcasm and humour, at the forefront of a writing that surpasses the old dilemmas in the country where “we are going nowhere, we go round in circles”, as the director observes. „Radu F. Alexandru presents Light, at the End of the Tunnel that robs us of all hope. Unfortunately, he is right. We still have many years to grope through the dark tunnel through which we have the feeling that we are advancing towards the bright end from which the Ode to Joy penetrates to us. Nonsense, we are going nowhere, we go round in circles! We laugh, but it is not amusing!”, Mircea Cornișteanu. "For me, Luminița is a messenger of the "new wave ". She has the qualities we cherish most, and I am positive that she and those like her will guide us tomorrow on the path to the future. Let us follow her with confidence, she is worth it! I am optimistic!”,Radu F. Alexandru. So let us pursue, in action, Light, at the end of the tunnel!  Will she be able to do what many others have not succeeded before her? And with what outcome? The show remains in the current repertoire of the theatre and can be seen in the hall, including with Monica Davidescu as Mrs. Neacșu. So, The Morning Star, Light, at the End of the Tunnel, The Limits of Expectation, and many other exciting titles, online, on the NTB channels, and in the week starting on Monday, June 15th! The NTB Online Programme, week June 8th-14th

08 June 2020

Another week on NTB YouTube! Three conferences and a show directed by Alexandru Dabija, Lottery Tickets! A new week of conferences that will end with an online show, which will be broadcast according to the same schedule, on Friday from 4.00 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday from 6.00 p.m. This weekend you will be able to see one of the most successful shows of the Caragiale Year 2012 at NTB - Lottery Tickets, directed by Alexandru Dabija! Until the reopening of the open-air theatre - at the NTB Amphitheatre, which will take place on the evening of June 15th - we continue, after the Pentecost, the series of broadcasts on the YouTube channel of the National Theatre of Bucharest, according to the following schedule: Conferences broadcast in week June 8th-14th, as of 2.00 p.m.: Tuesday, June 9th - Adina Nanu: Pleading for the Hats (the conference took place on February 8th, 2015) Wednesday, June 10th - Sorin Alexandrescu: Visual Culture, Pros and Cons (held on March 4th, 2007) Thursday, June 11th - Cătălin Ștefănescu: Exclamation Mark! (April 17th, 2016). On Friday, June 12th, Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th:  Lottery Tickets, the show directed by Alexandru Dabija after the eponymous short story by Caragiale, will be presented online on the YouTube channel. The performers in the complete cast version are: Gavril Pătru, Marius Manole, Ana Ciontea, Axel Mustache, as well as the younger Corina Moise, Ilona Brezoianu, Nicoleta Lefter, Valentina Zaharia, Eliza Păuna, Mădălin Mandin, Daniel Hara, Mihai Munteniță, Eduard Cârlan , Ionuț Toader, Dragoș Dumitru. Initially called Two Lost Tickets, and published as a supplement to the Moftul roman, the short story is then published, also in 1901, in Momente, with the definitive title - Lottery Tickets. Noting the kinship with The Easter Torch, the critic George Călinescu observed that, in the short story Lottery Tickets, “most people are inclined to see a cheerful composition. On the contrary, the short story is a drama that is all the more painful as the appearances are more parodic”. Alexandru Dabija, the one who signs the direction and adaptation of the opera for the stage, chooses the less trodden path. "I prefer not the version of the many," says the director, "but of the few, whom Lefter's string of misfortunes makes them think of destiny, of a sinister joke, committed by no one knows who." When it trespasses the limits, misfortune arouses compassion and, in extreme cases, horror”. "You can discover in Dabija’s adaptation for the stage a tenebrous, expressionistic Caragiale, with gloomy humour, suspended in a dizziness of the evil eye, of sickly superstition, which does not know what it really is - terribly fearful faith, or abandonment in the arms of unleashed human nature ". Cătălin Ştefănescu, Dilema Veche Lottery Tickets reaped remarkable success over time, both in the country and abroad, being appreciated as "a theatrical symphonic jewel about the whims of luck". Mircea Morariu, Familia “An intelligent, dizzyingly modern show about luck and bad luck, proving how easily and unexpectedly the loser can become - winner and vice versa, the playwright Dinu Grigorescu wrote in Literatorul. Helmut Stürmer with his extremely original sets contributes a lot to NTB's "Lottery Tickets" becoming a big winning lottery ticket. "The show brought director Alexandru Dabija the Best Director Award at the 2013 UNITER Gala and two others for Helmut Stürmer: Best Scenography award at the UNITER Gala and Scenography Award at the Romanian Comedy Festival. The show participated in the first edition of the MITEM Festival ("Madach International Theatre Meeting", 2014), and in 2017 in the "EUROKONTEXT s.k." International Festival, enjoying an excellent reception at both events. We are waiting for you this week online on NTB YouTube, and as of June 15th, in the Amphitheatre - where the tickets went on sale this Saturday and at some shows they have already been sold out!! Lottery Tickets show page  We remind you that the NTB online shows can only be watched at the announced times, as they are no longer available online after the end of the live broadcast. We wish you a pleasant viewing!   Translated by Simona Nichiteanu

NTB Online Programme, from June 2nd to 7th, 2020

02 June 2020

After the Holiday dedicated to the International Children's Day, the National Theatre of Bucharest resumes the broadcasting of online conferences as of June 2nd. Three lectures by personalities of Romanian socio- cultural and scientific life will be seen this week, Tuesday through Thursday on the NTB YouTube channel and a show on the weekend - A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, directed by Petrică Ionescu. A dream populated by gods and mortals, spirits, elves and fairies, impersonated by established actors of the National Theatre, who are joined by young artists of the Bucharest scene. Online conference schedule: Tuesday, June 2nd, 2.00 p.m. - Aurora Liiceanu - The Discomfort of Psychologists: Uncertainties and Hesitations (the conference was held on April 1st, 2018) Wednesday, June 3rd, 2.00 p.m. - Prof. Dr. Dinu Antonescu - The Impact of Communism on Romanian Medicine (from January 19th, 2020) Thursday, June 4th, 14.00 - Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu - Romanian Ethics and Public Sense 200 Years Ago (from March 18th, 2007) 5, 6, 7 June 2020 - Friday (4.00 p.m.), Saturday and Sunday (6.00 p.m.) - the most erotic play of the great Will: A Midsummer Night's Dream. A fantastic dream from the magical Midsummer Night, woven by the imagination of an artist of overwhelming originality, A Midsummer Night's Dream at NTB brings together elements of authentic Shakespearean poetry, humour, mystifying visual structures, ballet, and an exceptional musical score.  You will encounter not only one of the two most performed Shakespearean plays in Romania of the last six decades, according to a local study, but also… "the most erotic play of the great Will - as Jan Kott appreciates in his well-known book Shakespeare Our Contemporary. In no other comedy or tragedy, apart from Troilus and Cresida, eroticism is more brutal. For a long time, the renowned critic relates, theatres have been content to represent the Dream as a story of the Grimm brothers, completely eliminating the causticity of dialogue and the brutality of situations. " The vision of Romanian director Petrică Ionescu, famous for his stagings on major opera stages worldwide, will reveal a different Dream and a different forest, which no longer resembles an Arcadia of lovers, but rather "a forest haunted by devils and fairies, in which witches and evil spirits can easily find anything favourable to their spells." Just like in Shakespeare, Kott would say, to whom the above description belongs. "By necessarily descending through our experiences and pulsations into the caves, into the lowest and deepest cellars of our consciousness, we initiate ourselves, returning to the surface more evolved. Love is, in Shakespeare's very pessimistic vision, but an illusion, like theatre and "I discovered the absolute derision and the inescapable cruelty of the love experience. The endless illusions. I tried to convey these multiple truths with cruelty, keeping the sarcasm and humour present in every inflection of the Shakespearean text", declares Petrică Ionescu. Let us discover for ourselves the way through the thickets of the unleashed senses… In the cast of the show that you will be able to see online, the roles are performed by the actors: Theseus / Oberon: Marius Bodochi, Hippolyta: Raluca Petra, Titania: Maia Morgenstern, Aegean: Costel Constantin, Hermia: Ana Covalciuc, Demetrius: Silviu Mircescu, Lysander: Alex Călin, Helena: Ilinca HărnuțGuitar,: Dorin And one, Bottom: Mihai Constantin, Snug: Costi Apostol, Flute: Istvan Teglas, Starveling: Daniel Badale, Snout: Ștefan Ruxanda, Puck: Claudiu Bleonţ, Fairies: Eliza Păuna, Ilona Brezoianu, Alexandra Stroe, Philostrat: Vitalie Bichir, Rareș Fota. The show is not recommended for children under 14 years. More information and the whole team of directors on the show's page.   For details and last-minute information, we invite you to follow our pages at the following addresses: our YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/c/TeatrulNaţionalILCaragialeBucureşti - NTB Facebook page - https: //www.facebook. com / TNB.Ro / - NTB website, on the page https://www.tnb.ro/ro/livestreaming-tnb. The show can be watched online, in an archive recording, made with the technical means of 2003, when the premiere took place. So, here is the schedule of the conferences that will be broadcast in the week of May 25th - 31st, 2020 at NTB online: May 25th, at 2.00 p.m. - Germina Nagat - Disclosure - cui prodest? (conference held on January 10th, 2014) May 26th, 2.00 p.m. - Prof. Viorel Barbu - Mathematics and Arts (March 24th, 2019) May 27th, 2.00 p.m. - Octavian Paler - With Melancholy, about the Barbarians (October 26th, 2009) May 28th, 2.00 p.m. - Mircea Mihaies - On Success (December 10th, 2017).   Weekend with great actors in a terribly topical story, about… interwar Bucharest: Breaking News! On Friday, May 29th, 2020, from 4.00 p.m., Saturday May 30th and Sunday, May 31st, starting from 6.00 p.m., we will meet one of the most charming plays of Romanian drama, "Breaking News" by Mihail Sebastian, a virulent satire, directed by the late Anca Ovanez Doroșenco, featuring an adequate staging and cast: Claudiu Bleonţ, Mircea Albulescu, Ilinca Goia, Marin Moraru, Gheorghe Dinică, Constantin Dinulescu, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Marcelo Cobzariu, Mihai Niculescu, Liviu Crăciun , Alexandru Hasnaş, Carmen Ionescu, Raluca Petra, Silvia Năstase. Sets: Mihai Mădescu; Costumes: Luana Drăgoescu. "Breaking News" is a captivating love story, in the midst of an unscrupulous world, not very different from the one we live in. An up-to-date play like a newspaper story - as characterized by the director of the memorable staging. "Breaking News" has enjoyed great success since its launch. The absolute premiere took place on the stage of the Bucharest National, on January 23rd, 1946, directed by the debutant at that time, Moni Ghelerter. An anthological staging, immediately followed by the consecration of the director. Since then, the play has seen numerous stagings and interesting performances. "In today's interpretation, inspired by immediate contemporaneity, Anca Ovanez Doroșenco uses as pillars money and a world without political ideals, the levers of the corrupt mechanism being the media, business and culture" - wrote at the premiere critic Ludmila Patlanjoglu, in Cotidianul. History professor Andronic, "the lost dreamer, disconnected from reality", on a romantic quest, in the footsteps of Alexander the Great, finds himself, due to typographical errors, including a word with multiple references, in the jungle of the interwar Romanian press, but especially a target of a dreaded businessman, Bucșan. Through the clash between two diametrically opposed worlds, Mihail Sebastian manages to build a social satire of great resonance for our present. "Negotiations" worthy of the "blackmail and floor" tradition. Natalia Stancu, "Curierul Naţional". "An unmissable show, because it offers a genuine joy to any theatre lover." Ileana Lucaciu, "Romania Libera". We invite you to follow us online, and on our other websites, where we will return with details and last minute announcements: - NTB facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/TNB.Ro / - NTB website, on the page https://www.tnb.ro/ro/livestreaming-tnb   Translated by Simona Nichiteanu

We mention some of them: “Even from the perspective of the 21st century, the play Take, Ianke and Cadir reconfirms the secret virtues of the treasurer of humanity’s tradition, first of all… The nostalgic comedy is the auspicious genre, laughter being the effective antidote to both fanaticism and extremism; an unbeatable weapon that tempers moods and heals vices. The theatrical miracle is fulfilled once again under the discreet wand of Grigore Gonța ”. Irina Coroiu, Contemporanul “Will it be a show for the elderly, for the sentimental passers-by, for the losers? (…) I do not know. But it relaxes one and one is absorbed by it like a vintage photo ”. Dan C. Mihăilescu, NTB Gazette - Supplement, 2001-2002 "Over 20 years after the version with Finteşteanu - Giugaru - Anghelescu that delighted my childhood, the" Gonţa variant" with Beligan - Moraru - Dinică remains truly remarkable". Horia Gârbea, Contemporary "Do not miss this show - especially the young generation will have the revelation of a discovery - which will certainly bring you a drop of happiness and serenity, in a life too hectic and tormented." Irina Budeanu, Azi newspaper Victor Ion Popa’s play was performed for the first time in March 1932, at the “Maria Ventura” Theatre in Bucharest, right in the author's stage direction. However, the definitive entry of this comedy in the public consciousness begins in 1956-1957, when several theatres in Bucharest and throughout the country introduce it in their permanent repertoire, resuming it in various casts, some formidable, whose impact on the public proves to be, nowadays too, a very strong one.     We are waiting for you online, this week as well, at: http://www.youtube.com/c/TeatrulNaţionalILCaragialeBucureşti. We invite you to follow the theatre's website - www.tnb.ro, as well as the Facebook page, where we will mention, on a daily basis, the schedule and announce any changes.  Translated by Simona Nichiteanu

The NTB Online Programme, Week 11 - 17 May!

11 May 2020

This weekend, the Romanian play "God Dresses from the Thrift" by Iulian Margu, directed by Ion Caramitru, tops the online bill! A new week of online conferences at NTB. On the weekend, for the third consecutive week, after "Scourge" by I.L. Caragiale and "Allegro, ma non troppo" by Ion Minulescu, the Romanian play claims a privileged place. This weekend, as well, offers us the chance to meet again some of the actors that we, like you, are eager to meet again in the theatres. Until then, we present the programme that you will be able to watch from Monday to Sunday, on the Youtube channel of the National Theatre of Bucharest. We remind you of the address where, as of March 24th, 2020, we have been inviting you to a daily rendezvous: (http://www.youtube.com/c/TeatrulNaţionalILCaragialeBucureşti). We also remind you of the new schedule of the NTB Online Conferences. They are broadcast from Monday to Thursday, one title per day, starting with 2.00 p.m. However, the online NTB conferences remain available for viewing on NTB's youtube channel even after the end of the live broadcast. Conferences you can watch in the week of May 11th-17th: May 11 - Georgeta Filitti: Royal Romania during La Belle Epoque   May 12 - Adrian Vasilescu - Religion and the Star May 13 - Radu Beligan - My Professors May 14 - Basarab Nicolescu - Does the Universe Make Sense? The Contemporary Dialogue Between Science and Religion.   God Dresses from the Thrift this weekend online! Over the weekend, we invite you to watch the play God Dresses from the Thrift by Iulian Margu, directed by Ion Caramitru. The show was recorded in the initial cast, in which the female lead role, the character around whom the whole play revolves and in whose house the plot is set, the Shrew - as the fellow citizens nicknamed her, is impersonated by the late actress Florina Cercel. In the cast of the show you will encounter further popular actors, Lari Giorgescu, Dorin Andone, Carmen Ungureanu, Teodora Mareş, Armand Calotă, Fulvia Folosea, Eduard Adam, Ioan Andrei Ionescu. "The main story is divided in several sections, portrayed in multiple eras and reconstructed only at the end of the play, in order to fully understand the narrative- states the show's director, Ion Caramitru. From a stylistic perspective, it features two types of humour: one brash, the other roundabout. The play’s many references compose a symbolism which transcends the moulds of time and space." Or, in other words, "a brief history of modern Romania told with the help of an enchanted piano", as the author of the play says. The playwright Iulian Margu was born in Vâlcea, on January 15th, 1958. He has been writing drama and directing since the 1980s. He built his career between two passions, balancing with artistic sense between theatre and film. Most of his dramatic writings are satirical comedies, the author being constantly attentive to the role of theatre as a mirror of society, a mirror that not only reflects, but also forces one to interact. The show garnered raving reviews and critical acclaim, arousing interest not only among genre chroniclers. "The idea that the process of communism can comprise comedies has startled me and made me curious, all the more because I was assuming that the work of a young man, belonging to the generation for whom the memory of communist persecutions is reduced to the fact that they were forced to cut their long hair or beard. On the other hand, Caramitru’s name complicated the equation and rendered it exciting." Ana Blandiana, Observator Cultural. "It seems like we are dealing with one of the best texts which appeared in Romanian drama in the last two decades." Silvia Kerim, Formula As. "In an explosive appearance, Florina Cercel for whom the stage is reserved, gives flesh to an image talked about on-goingly, of the local prominent nicknamed the Shrew. Ion Caramitru orchestrates harmoniously, as director, the intricate structure of the text. He proposes beautiful solutions for identifying historical moments and biographic episodes.". Doina Papp, Adevărul. "The show is gripping: the two lead actors, Dorin Andone (Buza) and Lari Giorgescu (Lae) – two generations, but also two well-shaped talents, the first more comical, the latter more lyrical, - are keeping their spectators on the edge. The show is pleasant, with good music, animated with comic scenes in this sadness of an, actually, tragic history". Nicolae Prelipceanu, Revista Teatrul azi. Please note that the Show of the Week will be broadcast live on each of the three weekend days: Friday, starting at 4.00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, at 6.00 p.m. The NTB online shows can only be watched at the announced times, no longer being available online after the end of the live broadcast. This week as well, we expect you to stay "tuned", to stay connected to the programme and repertoire of the National Theatre of Bucharest. We wish you a pleasant viewing! We remind you that, on April 24th, the Bucharest National Theatre launched the online programme NTB Shows. In order for the spectators to have more opportunities to watch the performances from the archives of the National Theatre of Bucharest, we will broadcast a title every week. The show of the week will be broadcast, however, in a live streaming system on each of the three weekend days. However, the online NTB shows can only be watched at the announced times, no longer being available online after the end of the live broadcast. Allegro ma non troppo by Ion Minulescu, directed by Răzvan Popa, this weekend's show, broadcast on the NTB Youtube channel, is a sentimental comedy, a stroll in the charming interwar era with love affairs and dramatic suspense, an ingenious mix between theatre and reality, in which adultery is committed under the eyes of the husband, under the guise of a fictional play. A dramatic author performed with great success in his time, director of the National Theatre of Bucharest in 1926, Ion Minulescu (1881 - 1944) is known nowadays especially as a poet of Romances. Although during his lifetime, the writer believed that posterity would acknowledge him especially for his plays, the history of literature chose a different destiny. His dramatic writing deserves to be rediscovered even nowadays, decades after the first stagings at the Bucharest National, for lively dialogues, alert humor, naturalness of the story, intellectual zest, originality of the writing. Actor and director, Răzvan Popa, with the intuition of a successful choice, revealed at the date of the premiere the impression left by the play after the first reading: “It seemed to me of a striking topicality. Everything was like what was happening right now. Formal marriages, which decompose at the touch of the long arm of the law, between millionaires and millionaire politicians, artists who do not find their place in society, custom-made celebrities, millionaires who become celebrities in order to become even richer ... Here's what attracted me to the text of this writer, an almost unknown playwright, compared to the well-known Minulescu as a symbolist poet ”. Critics and playwrights, present in the audience at the premiere in 2014, also embraced the choice of text, the performance and the pace of the show adapted to the subject. "The great and pleasant surprise of this proposal of the Bucharest National is the text", appreciated TeamRăzvana Niță, Port.ro; "dramatic writing lesson, articulated with present talent by the outstanding performance of Gavril Patru and Marius Rizea. … A light, but "allegro" show, of great humour,  probably to be sold out for a long time, wherever it will be staged!" - Mircea M. Ionescu, Taifasuri; "A show that can very well be defined by the very words that give the title of the play" - Mircea Morariu, Teatrul azi. The cast includes: Gavril Pătru, Marius Rizea, Eugen Cristea, Monica Davidescu, Ileana Olteanu and Victoria Dicu. The show can be watched, in live streaming system, on youtube NTB, on May 8th, 9th and 10th, 2020. Details on www.tnb.ro/en. You are most welcome online, "Allegro, ma non troppo"!   Translated by Simona Nichiteanu
