From the series of the most fashionable theatrical productions of the last seasons, the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn makes a comeback to the National Theatre of Bucharest. Duel of witty words, eminent verses, subtle humour and divine music, on the chords of cellist Adrian Naidin. Legends of the Romanian stage, actor Horațiu Mălăele and his lifelong friend, the great Ion Caramitru, climb on the stage of the National Theatre of Bucharest for yet another gala edition of the most applauded theatrical production of the last seasons: Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn.
The show is an excellent challenge for two masters of reciting verses, elegant and intelligent, exploring with humour subtleties of the mind and secret corners of the soul. Caramitru recites disturbingly, imagining with intelligence and ingenuity, retorts matching a volcanic Horațiu Mălăele, irresistible and humorous – displays of prowess in a word duel, whose witnesses are often Shakespeare, Topârceanu or Nichita Stănescu. Horațiu Mălăele remains a comical prodigy who has amply demonstrated that he disposes of all subtleties of the mind and the soul, which he achieves by using all means of art. “Probably the best product of Romanian theatre of the last 20 years”, as Ion Caramitru describes it, the tireless Mălăele is on a perpetual search and therefore none of his appearances on stage is similar to the previous one. Cellist Adrian Naidin is the one who accepted the invitation to give tempo to this unconventional show of words. “Uttered, the sound could become word”, says Adrian Naidin. “There are encounters between word and sound. Both have the same origin: the spirit. Both spring from the soul”, he states.
At its fourth season, interval in which it was played each time to a full house, both at the Bucharest representations, and within the framework of country tours, the show Caramitru-Mălăele, Spinning a Yarn launches the series of the gala editions. We are inviting you to meet again the three artists in the theatre hall, in order for you, as Horațiu Mălăele states, “to laugh for the rest of your life, because laughter is the music of the soul, to play – it is the secret of youth, and to love – it is the reason to live”.
