David Doiashvili was born on October 7, 1971 in the City of Tbilisi, Georgia.

 

In 1994 he graduated from Shota Rustaveli Theatre Institute, Theatre directing faculty . (Workshop of Mikheil Tumanishvili)

 

Besides the theatre career, David Doiashvili has worked as a lecturer of acting at Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Cinema Tbilisi State University. In 1998-2001 was the chief director of Kote Marjanishvili Drama Theatre. Amongst the successful projects accomplished by him, the most remarkable were: William Shakespeare - King Lear, Oscar Wilde - Salome, Anton Chekhov - Three Sisters, William Shakespeare –Macbeth and so on. David Doiashvili has staged many performances throughout the world: West Yorkshire Playhouse (London): Arthur Miller - The Crucible; Mariinsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg): Gaetano Donizetti - Lucia Di Lammermoor; Croatian National Theatre (Rijeka): Riunoske Akutagava - Life of the idiot, William Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Budapest National Theatre: A Midsummer Night`s Dream by Shakespeare and Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and so on.

 

Since 2004, David Doiashvili has been managing and artistic director at Vaso Abashidze Music and Drama State Theatre. His most successful and creative career is associated with this very theatre. Many performances staged by him in this theatre became the subject of total interest and gained popularity of the audience, critics and producers. The performance (William Shakespeare’s Macbeth) staged by him won nine out twelve nominations at Rijeka International Theatre Festival of Croatia. His other performances got the same success at various prestigious theatre festivals in many different countries throughout the world.

 

David Doiashvili’s most popular plays are: Macbeth by William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, The State of Siege by Albert Camus, The House on the Border by Slawomir Mrozek, Separation by Giorgi Eristavi , Fool’s Life by Ryunoske Akutagava, The Lower Depths by Maxim Gorky, The pillowman by Martin McDonagh, and so on.

 

Apart from theatrical career, David Doiashvili aims to integrate Georgian Theatre with European Theatres. David Doiashvili has been awarded many prizes for his creative career in Georgia as well as outside its borders. David Doiashvili was awarded with Medal of Honor and Medal of Excellence. Also, he has received Shota Rustaveli, Kote Marjanishvili and Sandro Axmeteli Awards. He is the grand prize winner of many international theatre festivals.
