The text is a delicious three-act comedy, written in 1932 and staged the same year at the Maria Ventura Theatre, where it was first staged in Bulandra in 1957 by director N. Al. Tuscans.
More than six decades after Toscani's staging, Horaţiu Mălăele brings back to the stage of the Bulandra Theatre the three human typologies, embodying the Jew Ianke and casting Răzvan Vasilescu and Mihai Constantin in the roles of the Turkish Cadâr and the Romanian Take.
Along with the three main performers, the cast will also include: Dana Dogaru, Adrian Ciobanu, Maria Veronica Vârlan and Matei Constantin. The scenography of the show was entrusted to Maria Miu.
The play brings to the fore the life story of the three merchant friends, subtly addressing the issue of race, faith and religion, individual and group identity status, thus reminding us that differences are not necessarily a reason for dissension. But also that good understanding can work against the background of accepting and assuming what defines and differentiates us from others.
